One of the three islands is still US military property, if it is lost the Okinawa reversion treaty is technically broken and Okinawa in theory will revert back to American hands & those islands are part of Okinawa prefecture there by Putting the US in an even worse spot if the treaty is broken.

Yes actually there was a whole long thread about this already, and still I didn't believe you. The part where the US is involved is new to me though.

IF big if! If the treaty is compromised and if Okinawa does not revert back to US hands it still puts the prefectures standing in to the world’s courts hands to decide how bad the treaty was broken at which point china would try to claim the islands as Taiwan’s and would see Taiwan fall under the sovereignty of China. Taiwan is not a sovereign entity in the eyes of japan, but they claim these islands and china claims Taiwan. Understand china’s claim on Taiwan is not legal at this point, this whole issue could change that and Taiwan could be lost. The whole thing is a legal snafu.



There are a handful of outcomes that could happen if this does go to the world court, they are all scary in my opinion.
