Do you have a cleft chin ? You won't believe this!

Yes, "most" of us are related, but not all of us are. This does not go with the other features you spoke about and is more of a definitive physical trait than say large eyes or small ears. Plain and simple, you will see 'VERY few black people with them unless they have a thinner nose which means they are a hybrid.

In addition, some of us are further from the tree on the branch than others. Meaning, some of us may be more like brothers and others like 23rd distant cousins

It's impossible for a son to have a cleft chin unless his father has one. Bet there's loads of men now looking at their son's chins! lol - It's true though!

could this be related to being born while not entirely fully developped as a baby? i'm thinking of other commonly seen traits such as a tied tongue (ankyloglossia, [link to en.wikipedia.org] ) or a tight foresking (frenulum breve, [link to en.wikipedia.org] , not safe for work), which also might, partly, be due to ones genes.

i've held a theory that some souls force themselves to be born on specific moments...

My cleft chin is a pain. I find that most men want to straddle my chin and pump their penises between the generous clefts of my chin.

OP ....I personaly think your chin is just one of them cool features that makes all of us different.....

But there class action suit going on against some big pharma......children get cleft chin and other abnormalities if mother used some meds... during pregnancy.....don't dig to deep in past...just saying.

While my nose is straight, I wouldn't call it thin. The rest of my family have either a hump in their nose(from Native American ancestry) or a slightly shoveled nose(a West African trait). As far as I know, I'm the only one in my family with a cleft chin. But I have seen many African Americans with cleft chins growing up.

Based on my research, many of us are mixed race. For example, I am of Phoenician, Ethiopian and Celtic. My nose and lips are a bit wider/thicker than your average white man from my Ethiopian ancestry. Your nose and chin would be the result of mixed blood line as well.

My kids and I have dimpled chin. We are all above avg. looks. Well, OK, people get hooked on us easy is what I am saying!
One is GATE math, other 2 are English.
Reading college level at 7 or 8.

In normal human fetal development, the right and left sides of the lower half of the jaw fuse together before birth. When the fusion of the two sides doesn't take place properly, the baby is born with a cleft chin.

The genetics of facial characteristics is a fascinating area and a cleft chin is actually caused by a dominant gene. This doesn't necessarily mean that if you happen to have a cleft chin, that all of your children will have this facial trait as well.

just to confuse matters a touch it is likely that a cleft chin is not caused by one single gene; the version described above is an over simplification, often used in schools to explain how a physical characteristic is inherited. The truth is that there is probably a whole suite of genes that contribute to the formation of a cleft chin, although the genetic data on this is quite sparse.

not so unusual. brown eyes are a dominant gene also. it doesn't mean that everyone with brown eyes are from the same genetic family.

My theory on why the fusion of the two sides doesn't take place properly and the baby is born with a cleft chin would be the similar to why RH negative mothers have to have shots to have a RH+ baby. They are hybrids and these beings fusing together in the womb.

OMG my dad and I were just speaking about this subject.....we both have cleft chins I am female my two other sisters dont share that trait with me....I always have had a hard time with this. I have also ALWAYS felt different and throughout elementary and middle school I was called butt chin, I will never forget that. I also have been called an old soul.

All my life I have been emotionally/intellectually unable to brag, and feel a little pukey and embarrassed for people that do. Unworthy practice.

I've just stumbled across this. The class action lawsuit is against cleft lip which falls into a group of birth defects called craniosynostosis. My son was born with Craniosynostosis in the form of plagiocephaly. These are real and can be serious/fatal birth defects. My sons was so bad if he didn't have his facial reconstruction done it would have left him completely mentally handicapped or killed him by the age of 5!

In his case he wasn't born with a soft spot. A humans skull has a soft spot to allow for the head to grow as the brain grows. If the skull can not expand with the brain and the brain can not push out any further it forms pressure on the brain and leaves a child with sever mental handicaps or will result in death.

I don't know a lot about cleft lip, but I have a friend that was born with it and had to have surgery to correct it. This often makes its nearly impossible for an infant to nurse or take a bottle for it cannot form a seal with its lips to suckle.

These are far more serious and actual deformalities than a cleft chin. That's why there is a class action lawsuit against these pharmasutical companies.

This totally untrue. My new grandson has a very distinct one and his father nor his mother have it. In researching though I found that many of his relatives from his mothers side of the family does indeed have one.

LOL! OK, so my husband has a cleft chin and he is extremely bright. I don't have a cleft chin. However, I am B- blood and you know what all the sites say about how "special" we are. :)

So, we have two kids. Neither has a cleft chin and neither has negative blood. But, they are both genius children while we parents are merely gifted.

Guess both theories are bunk.
