That's what I want to know.

This shelling seems to be the work of another entity - probably the Syrian rebels. Assad doesn't have much to gain from random mortar attacks on Turkey.

That said, if it is the rebels shelling Turkey, and Turkey knows it (and is using the opportunity to show strength) then we have a serious situation on our hands.

Basically, it means that the rebels will escalate their attacks to the extent that Turkey uses it as a pretext to bring NATO into full-scale war against the Assad regime.

That's what we're ultimately looking at here folks.
