"Camp Lejeune is also known as a base riddled with contamination where soldiers who dedicated their lives to their country are now losing their lives to cancer and various other major health issues. You might add the trillions of cubic feet of hollow areas where oil from reservoirs the size of oceans have been been pumped dry creating massive geological faults. And people wonder why sinkholes are happening?

Water Filtration system companies always wish to dominate this idea of water purification with their proprietary or technical equipment (no good for TSHTF for that reason.) , because there is money in it. Don't put any faith in that stuff for those reasons.

They will always say, "sure, you can desalinate sea water so long as you pay a bunch of money to a big company".

I on the other hand have produced solar water distillers for over 30 years, not as a career, but mostly personal distillers that I donate when I move on. The distilled water is much more pure than any filtered water, and distillers can be built from basically some trash that might be found on a desert island if it really comes down to it.

With 100sq ft of clear plastic sheet and some tubing I could set up a system that would produce 5 gallons distilled from sea water per day, and with the same amount of glass and stainless steel tubing I could produce a system that would produce 5 gallons a day distilled that would be free from those concerns of phalates in plastics.

I subscribe to Thomas Gold's idea that these reservoirs might be refilled, and they're made of solid rock. I don't think this is a big risk, though I might be wrong if that's what caused the Deepwater Horizon leak.

I was thinking that most of the problems are caused by fracking, which is new and awful, rather than pumping out conventional oil and gas from natural reservoirs, which we have been doing quite a while now. But it's also true that I live in NY state which our governor wants to frack, so I'm focused on that. I don't live near this crazy growing sinkhole in Louisiana.

I agree there are cures for cancer, but at this time there are only treatments for cancer available. I also agree that the technology is available to turn ocean water into clean fresh water. Therefore explain to the residents of Africa why the can't have fresh water to drink.

Using natural attenuation, the Air Force would continue to capture pollutants on base, but let the polluted groundwater already off base degrade naturally over 30 years.
