I swear, my heart breaks for those people in New Yor/New Jersey. It is shocking to see that so many people are being left in this situation, young and old. You can bet your arse that there is no millionaires still stuck around there, fighting for their very lives.

I love the fact how people living in different parts of your country can sit there and judge these people, damn them, without having the first clue of what they re experiencing.

My father in law is a supervisor for the largest phone/cable company in New Jersey. Do you know what his boss has him and his co-workers doing this entire week ...not fixing the utilities...working 24 hour security on telephone poles because people are climbing up and stealing the electric generators here in north NJ. He literally is assigned to sitting in his van watching telephone/utility poles . You wont see that crap on the news.

Makes no difference, win or lose, political or not....man...I'd be like, give me 5 C-130s packed to the rafters, I'll take two Army Air Foil Boat thingys hauling in Generators, 15 Coast Guard Dolphins rescuing people on rooftops, HELL, I'd pay people to go stand on rooftops and act like they needed rescued if need be...order FEMA, Red Cross, National Guard...rescue/relief....and bull dozers and back hoes working like ants....in there, with a snap of my finger....which is the power a President has.

I just dont understand whats holding the releif efforts back is it due to transportation , power grid down , i dont know, but here in central pennsylvania when we werehit with major flooding in sept 2011 FEMA was here in record time 36 hrs maybe less, and they did an outstanding job , no kidding they were the pinnacle of perfection in everyway , no one had even a little complaint about FEMA and there staff, so what is different here , i would imagine it is the scale of devastation much larger now with sandy, and not enough manpower , i just cant say what is the hold up, but i can say from personal experience, FEMA is top notch , please dont vent on these men and woman it only makes things worse. keep the faith guys,

Well, there is no man here and I suffered a lot of damage in the wake of the storm. Still no power. This woman is sitting in her warm home with plenty of food and water. No man provided that for me...I provided it for myself. I have all I need, and have had plenty of extra to help out the neighbors (with their male "heads of household") who seem to have nothing prepared and no ability at all to function without the mirowave oven and cable tv.

Now, I am sure that there are plenty of men out there who were well prepared and are not running around in a panic over how to care for themselves and their families, but they sure don't live near me.

Anyway, heading out to split some more firewood as my supply is getting low. Perhaps I will split some for my (male) neighbor as well....silly fool....woodstove but no wood.

I will then use some of my stored food and make up a nice casserole for dinner tonight. Perhaps I will make a second for this same neighbors family. He seems unable to produce food for them.

I will also spend some time this afternoon cutting and clearing more downed limbs and trees from my property. No worries about neighbor though....he ways either the government or his insurance company will do that for him.

I will then use some of my stored gas to make a run to our local shelter and help out some of those folks. Neighbor won't go.....he claims he is too needy to help others in need.

Now, remind me again about how I need a man around? For what? Seems to me that men like this neighbor would just drag me down with him. No thank you!!

I have a husband and a son (also 4 daughters) and I know my husband would do anything to provide for us including not eating so the children would be able to. I would do the same.
