Ok, sig other has been suffering from these. Anyone know of any cures? Pharm drugs not really working.

If sig other is female, it is a hormonal imbalance. Do the migraines occur at the end of her monthly?

Hysterectomy cured me.

If sig other is male, disregard my post.

In menopause, no cycle...

Then you could look online for an herbal remedy that contains dong quai and black cohosh for starters. Might want to look into progesterone cream as well if you still have your uterus. For those that have had their uterus removed and still have working ovaries then estrogen is all that is usually needed.

here is the menopause link from earth clinic.

Hope you find some relief.

Oh, and I have heard that Lydia Pinkham's herbal remedy is great for hormone problems because it focuses on estrogen. It can be bought online and in some drugstores. My grandmother use to use it. Here is a link and futher down is what it has in it.

Re: Migraine suffers need help
Keep in mind, OP....make sure you are really having "classic" migraine. It's a whole 'nuther kind of headache caused by the exact opposite of what other headeaches are caused by.

If your migraine symptoms are not helped by most meds that are used to treat them, there is a chance that they are not classic migraines.

I suffer with classic migraines associated with hormones, so I get one every month. But for many years, (about 25), I've suffered with another type of severe and debilitating headache that the doctors I was going to thought were migraines. They treated them with everything they could, but these headaches, (my husband called them "screamers") would literally make me clutch my head and scream sometimes. So, because of the severity, the docs all thought they were migraines.

Then one day, I went to a new Neurology clinic. The doc who saw me put me through a few examining tests, asked me a few questions and got out his PDR. After thumbing through it for a while, he punched his finger on a page and said, "There! This is what you need."

According to him, my "other" migraines were skeletal. Caused by inflammation of the tissues that connect the muscles and tendons of the very top of the neck, under the skull. The med he prescribed was Indocin, (or Indochron, Indomethycin, etc.). It's a very powerful anti-inflammatory that is used to treat arthritis. When I took it, all the pain drained from my skull within 15 or so minutes and I still take the med to this day.

I take meds for classic migraine when they come, once a month, (Fioricet); and I take the Indomethacyn for the skeletal ones that occur more frequently.

I hope you have successful treatment SOON!!!!!!

It really taxes the liver......you'd have to look into natural liver support. It HAS to be taken with a full meal....not just a glass of milk, or a piece of bread. Try a sandwich and milk at least. That's for me, anyway, because I have stomach issues. My mother-in-law doesn't have these problems with the med.

There are alternatives to the Indochron. Newer meds and such. I enjoyed terrific success with Celebrex, as well. And, for me, it was much easier on the stomach. The important thing is to determine if these are really classic migraine or something else.

And I am still pursuing natural alternatives as well, so please don't think I'm discounting those. But I know how severe, unrelenting headaches can sap a person's will to live. That was me 25 years ago. Not any longer though.

I dont think they are classic as they occur EVERY day for hours. Behind the noise, eyes and radiating towards the back of the head. Sig other has had MRI's, chiropratic work, every drug, etc. and nothing has really worked. In fact one doc said she had a deviated septum so she did that surgery and it changed nothing. I know when she gets them she is bed ridden and in extreme pain.

Butterbur or better yet Petadolex. Haven't had one migraine since the first week of taking Petadolex, going on 8 months or so after having nearly a migraine everyday. I tried so many therapies and I was losing my will to live on in this way. I hope it works for you. Best price I found was at Amazon.

Butterbur is a plant that contains sapinoids and other bio active compounds that are thought to target and enhance cranial circulation. Warning about Butterbur, it is hepatoxic, meaning bad for the liver. The Petadolex is the only formulation that is safe. I took the Butterbur for a while with milk thistle to protect the liver and had no contraindications with that combination. I am not a health care practitioner, I am pro active about my own health and always willing to share what works for myself. I think it is always a good idea to keep a lot of daylight between Pharma and your body. Just sayin!

Have you had an MRI of the brain? Lesions indicate migraines which means that you have clinical chronic migraines. Also, do you have any cervical neck issues, disc issues? If the neck has any issues, they can cause migraines.

Yes, acupuncture is awesome ! Love to go to a session!

So true. I avoid big pharma at all costs until I get one of these headaches.
Getting rid of the pain is the only consideration.

OP--from your description--I get the exact same kind of headaches way too often. Woke up with one this morning.

It hurts from behind my eye all the way to the back of my head and my sinus area hurts so I don't know what kind of headache it is, but the pain is intense. Even with medication, it lasts for hours.

I'm also menopausal.

Re: Migraine suffers need help
I'd had debilitating migraines for years. I eliminated chocolate, peanuts (and peanut products)and aged cheese from my diet. That helped a little but I still had them. I kept a log of all the food I ate for 3 months and a pattern appeared. Every time I ate chicken, I would have a migraine within 2 days. I eliminated anything with chicken and the migraines dropped down to practically zero. I had been having them 2-3 times a month, lasting for as many as 3 days. I also discovered that I COULD eat organic/free range chicken. The anti-biotics and hormones fed to commercial chicken were the triggers.

After adjusting my diet and eliminating all the triggers, I still occasionally had one but it wasn't as severe and didn't last nearly as long. With a little research, I discovered that a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (with the Mother) in a 1/4 cup water, taken once a day, eliminated them altogether. You can buy the vinegar in the health food section of any big grocer but make sure it has the Mother in it. That's what contains the healing properties.

Hope this helps.

Don't poison yourself with any OTC or RX meds. Your cardiovascular system needs help. I suffered from migraines for 25 years. I tried everything...and no doctor was able to accurately get to the source of the problem. All they wanted to do was mask the pain...not cure it. I visited a chiropractor for 2 years...nothing. RX meds...nothing. Here's what finally worked. BTW...I've been migraine free for 3 years now. I'll get a regular headache now and then, but never a migraine. I had forgotten what a regular headache was like.

Take every day...

Vitamin E 1000 IU
Vitamin A 25,000 IU
Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc Combo 1200mg magnesium minimum (the calcium has to be there for your body to absorb the magnesium)
Co-Q10 (Quick Absorb) 100 mg
Flush Free Niacin 500 mg
Astaxanthin 8 mg

no fake sugars at all. no diet anything. no gum it has fake sugar. no candies same thing. no flavored anything. ranch dressing has msg and all the nice flavored stuff has msg or natural flavorings or yeast extracts it all causes migraines.

stay away from diets. cant stress that enough. and it will not hurt one bit to gget away from it for a week to see if it helps.

the msg is a poison too. read everything. the labels will have it on there.

no kettle corn popcorn. its sucralose a fake sugar. not real.

msgtruth.org I thionk is the page you want.

if that does not help use apple cider vinegar and honey for a week. teaspoon ea in hot water enough to melt honey drunk twice a day. for some reason women and our hormones have issues and the vinegar and honey regulates it..

if she is hypersexual and has hair loss it can be too much copper in her body. zinc and vit c will help.

if she barely wants it then its the opposite. it cant hurt to try.

iodine deficiency can cause migraines as well. this will have to be put on the skin daily for a week to see.
buy the iodine at the bandaid section its like maybe four dollars. put on wrists on the veins. body will absorb what is needed.
if she is cold a lot has super dry skin and constipated then yes she needs iodine bad.

all these will not hurt to try for sure.

Good luck..
