Anonymous Coward User ID: 27382994 Germany 11/09/2012 02:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OBAMA OR PUTTING PEOPLE INTO CAMPS. ETC. IT HAS TO DO WITH AVAILABILTY. BETTER TO HAVE A ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD AND HEAT THAN SITTING IN THE STREETS. Quoting: shineon ONE HAS TO MAKE USE OF WHAT IS AVAILABLE IN THE AREA SINCE FOLKS DONT SEEM PRONE TO GO ELSEWHERE. IN A CRISIS LIKE THIS, IT TAKES TIME FOR FEMA OR THE OTHER AGENCIES TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. SO THEY DO WHAT THEY CAN IN THE MOMENT. WHERE IS THE GRATITUDE? JUST BECAUSE WE LIVE IN AMERICA DOESN'T MEAN WE ARE ABOVE LIVING IN TENT CITIES LIKE THE REST OF THE WORLD. BUT I CANT HELP BUT WONDER WHY THE HOTEL CHAINS ARENT MAKING ROOMS AVAILABLE? okay creepy apologist, nervous that your team isn't looking so good, or people are catching on? I already know your kind want the US to become like "the rest of the world" and by that you mean the lowest of the third world... oh yeah and one more thing: WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU YELLING IN ALL CAPS? Oh, wait...for that statement, creepy is much too mild. More like sick in the head. Yeah, the next available availability would be the grave, but they couldn´t get those multi-body grave liners there fast enough. And hey, even the dumbest of the dumb might be gett´in suspicious when they started offering free-WARM- showers. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24061376 Officials in New York are reportedly eyeing a recently-closed prison as temporary housing for people displaced by superstorm Sandy and this week's nor'easter. The New York Post reports that state officials are considering the Arthur Kill Correctional Facility on Staten Island to feed and house as many as 900 victims with nowhere else to turn. Do they lock your cell at night? Quoting: closing eyes Why was the prison shut down? Probably. For "safety" reasons of course. These poor human beings need shelter, food, hot water, a place to sleep. They have just lost EVERYTHING! It shouldn't matter what facility it happens in. We know from past experience that a stadium isn't sufficient. :-( It is going to be winter soon. Most of these people don't have flood insurance. Their homes are not going to be repaired. How many displaced people do we still have from Katrina???? Yes, give them shelter!!!!! I am a single mom of three kids, and I'd be first in line, rather than see my children die of exposure and starvation. If I had the space, I'd also be the first to invite another family to live with me. I can't stand the thought of other human beings suffering through no fault of their own. Show some compassion! Sheesh! Not everything is a conspiracy. I will eat my words if I'm wrong, but so far, this seems like a logical idea. "Don't look back, you're not going that way." Anonymous Coward User ID: 1550123 United States 11/09/2012 04:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'll tell you what then, how about the authorities just do nothing and let everyone starve and freeze to death...FEMA did it...why should anyone else care? Quoting: AFGW 21140569 Well, someone cared enough to say, "hey, we have an empty facility that would serve the greatest purpose right now even though it was first intended to house criminals, it will now feed, warm and clothe hundreds if not thousands (including children) of NYC citizens. They finally have an answer to survival and I'll be willing to bet that anyone posting a complaint about this on this thread isn't in Staten Island right now with no heat, food, or enough clothes to keep your children warm. I'll bet these citizens are happy and thankful to have a place to go right now, prison or not. Geez, people, these residents aren't going to be arrested for crying out loud or treated like criminals. Would you all feel better if they used an abandoned church instead...how about a Mosque...I bet that would really get you going! Well, I don't care how you feel, my concerns are with the suffering people in NY and surrounding areas. I'm glad that solutions are being worked out. It's going to be a long, cold winter in those parts and a lot of people lost their homes. Any solution for them that will keep them healthy albeit, alive, I truly welcome. GLP has a bug up their asses this week. Not everything is evil and diabolical. Ever hear of critical thinking? It should be a requirement on this website. People are going to bitch if the authorities help or not. Damned if they do damned if they don't. I think it is a good idea as well since the alternative is homelessness and freezing to death. |

StormeyGoddess User ID: 22004193 United States 11/09/2012 05:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My best friends husband (ha ha ha sounds like my uncle) is in New Jersey to help restore power...They have to drive two hours to and from Philly to even get to work...The hotels are booked. Those that aren't booked, don't have power. I think it's a crock of shit that the people helping to restore power have to drive TWO HOURS to be able to assist. That's what a mess it is. There are other reasons it's taking so long to restore power, of course, but the drive time has reduced the number of hours they can spend actually WORKING. So, yes, put these people in a facility, any facility until power is restored and their homes are habitable. "Don't look back, you're not going that way." They have single beds in dorms or cells and have toilet pots in the middle of the room. How the hell does a family - or multiple families deal with this? It's an outrage to decency - imagine everyone in the room watching a girl shitting and farting in the middle of the room. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27386619 How the hell do they make this fit for the American culture? gawd what a voice of reason YES!! how can they even fathom putting families with kids in a prison...toilets with pee all over the floor it is an outrage !! prisons are for prisoners why not a dorm room ; yes or a church(s) or gymnasiums but prisons?? |
