Re: Happy Birthday, Marines!!!

Such much of what he said was right and at the same time totally wrong.

and I don't find for a second anything hypocritical in saying that.

first off fatassed actor makes a poor Smedley D. Butler, the real General Butler was a skinny little fart of a man that wouldn't scare an old lady until you looked into his eyes.

He had the eyes that destroyed an attempt to take over the government by the big business (Fascists).

This rant of his was a direct result of that attempt and yet he would have do anything to save this nation.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Above is a link to the Real Smedley D. Butler describing the plot.

Yes Marines are often the thugs of this nation, but from Time to time we save it as well.

That is our duty and honor to serve this nation.

(snippet)

In psychology, compensation is a strategy whereby one covers up, consciously or unconsciously, weaknesses, frustrations, desires, feelings of inadequacy or incompetence in one life area through the gratification or (drive towards) excellence in another area. Compensation can cover up either real or imagined deficiencies and personal or physical inferiority. The compensation strategy, however does not truly address the source of this inferiority. Positive compensations may help one to overcome one’s difficulties. On the other hand, negative compensations do not, which results in a reinforced feeling of inferiority. There are two kinds of negative compensation:

Overcompensation, characterized by a superiority goal, leads to striving for power, dominance, self-esteem and self-devaluation.

Not arrogant, just psychology. There is a reason people do what they do, whether military or civilian.

Psycholgy is important, as one can examine why onself is the way they are, and possibly improve on that.

It also helps when dealing with others in day to day life, to understand why they act the way they do.

Don't take things so personally.

Not everyone is out to get you. Do you really think that there is not a psychological aspect to why people pick one branch over the other?

No, I always found it interesting how folks get all emotional about the "birth" of the corps.

I can see getting emotional about a baby being born and such.

But not much with a military branch.

If you don't want me to post here, just say the word, and I won't.
