If you want the US to help end the violence, the US would need to convince the people in Gaza, which are 99% Sunni Muslims, to stop reading the Quran:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government is expected to expand Israel Defense Forces operations in the Gaza Strip and is not interested in a cease-fire for now, three senior officials involved in Operation Pillar of Defense decisions said Thursday.

The IDF was ordered to increase air strikes on Gaza and to complete preparations for a ground operation, after Netanyahu consulted with Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

A senior official who was briefed after the consultation said, "We're not talking about a cease-fire it's not on the agenda."

Another official who attended the consultation said the Gaza operation will continue and be expanded. "We're in no hurry to receive messages about a cease fire from Egypt or other states," he said.

"We'll continue the pressure and the attacks on Gaza until Hamas begs for a cease-fire," he said. A third official said: "This is only the beginning. The rocket fire from Gaza is continuing, so the IDF will ratchet up its activity. Perhaps a ground operation will be necessary. The operation will not end until all the goals are achieved and Israel restores its deterrence against Hamas."

That's when we step in, when it becomes personal.

Politics.
Egypt knows America will back Israel as things escalate. Knowing the the US supports Israel "protecting itself", they are taking the position that they would use their influence to calm the Palestinian side and the US could do the same with Israel. If Israel isn't pressured into ceasefire talks by their allies, the situation will only escalate which is why Egypt has also mobilized.
Basically, once Egypt intervenes, they don't want the US to come after them. The staged consulate protests were part of this plan (it severed political ties), as the US has no intention of talking Israel down.

I don't understand why Egypt would be so upset about Israels response.. Israel is giving Hamas a free fireworks show. With nothing else to do in Gaza, I'm sure this will be fun and entertaining for the whole family. And on another positive note this will be great for their economy in regard to rebuilding the city. Of course everyone looking for jobs will need to be a stone mason or carpenter. Just looking at the situation from a different perspective. There is always a positive side to every situation! Carry on!
