My family already knows I'm a doomer, and the firestarters were cheap. Quoting: samanthasunflower So actually you're saying that your family already knows that you're a doomer but now they also know that you're cheap? They all make more then me, they can afford their own toys. Besides, it will be part of a gift pack with some homemade stuff like jam, nuts, homemade jerky, and stuff like that. Sounds like a very good gift to me! "When tyrants tremble in their fear, and hear their death knell ringing, When friends rejoice both far and near, how can I keep from singing" page7 |

If major doom happens this winter from the events that are unfolding there won't be many that make it very far out of the big urban centres with their BOBs where I live. We already have 16 inches of snow and the cold weather is almost here. If the doom happens over the next few months there will be a serious drop in the population in many parts of the northern hemisphere. |

Better to do it now then when you need water and find out the valve is clogged or broken. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1164412 Err....some thoughts on all of that: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1110734 Many people have no idea about their hot water system. Is it gas or electric? Is it actually a tank or is it tankless and using a heat exchanger? GO LOOK NOW. When if ever have you drained it? Most people haven't. GO LOOK NOW and try draining a little when not in operation. Many have lots of corrosion from rust and sediment from soldering agents in piping plus grit. Better to know now, then when you are thinking, "Oh I'm covered on water supply." Don't drink water from toilet tanks. They most often have very high staph content and you may just have dosed your family with contaminated water. Not wise. Filling up your bath tub means not being able to have a dedicated place to clean from. It's true that short term you could rapidly fill it with water for flushing. I would never drink water from a tub without a lot of treatment. The dirtiest places in your home are places with sinks. It's a guaranteed way to vastly introduce bacteria into your body. It's possible to purchase a water bob and therefore create a source of water to drink short-term. Long term you can't flush or drain the tub since sewer systems may not be able to cope or operate. See Hurricane Sandy especially high rise apartments. I encourage you to research everything I say for veracity. Many of these issues are specifically and carefully dealt with 600+ postings in: Thread: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF I have drained a lot of hot water tanks, it is gross and not that easy. I tell everyone, never cook or drink from the hot water tap. And yes go look in the toilet tank more gross. Do drain and flush the water tank often, amazing how much junk keeps comming out even after it is drained when fresh water added. Not just junk but slime. You need an air compressor to blow it out good. Pour a gallon of beach in there before connecting back up, let set for 24 hr and flush lines. With a lot of effort and some bleach it will be beter than nothing. Any thanks for the hummor, I needed a laugh today. |
ohnonotagain User ID: 27454579 United States 11/17/2012 05:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not if your Water Heater holds 30 gallons! Just yanking your chain, 5 stars for not calling it a Hot Water Heater, lol! People in rural area's that have well water, like myself, are in a better situation. If you're in the suburbs, buy a hand pump, 3 - 10'x 1 1/4" galvanized pipe, 3 - 1 1/4" couplings, 1-1 1/4" well tip, and a fitting to attach to pump (see pump for what is required) and a fence post driver. All this can be bought for under $150.00. In most areas you will be able to pound your own temp well. Here in my area, we can hit water at about 18 - 30 feet. Check your local area and adjust your material list. Note, before you start you'll need to dig a well pit, 4' x 4' x 5' deep. This is for pounding the pipe in, easier than standing on a 14' ladder, and from freezing in the winter. You'll also need to build a lid and ladder for the pit. Keep this stored for future use, only when you need it. I don't think your local Nazi's would approve of you having one full time, lol! Peace! As soon as you smell a slight chlorine smell, it's safe for drinking. Water purification is a waste of money. Empty s hotel shampoo bottle, visine bottle, small plastic liquor bottle and pour in bleach. |

If you put the condom into a sleeve or the leg of a panty hose, you can fill it with 2 gallons of water. Then tie a knot in the condom, and sleeve and hang from your back or shoulder. You can also filter water through a tampon much like a straw....to drink out of mud puddles, ditches, etc... |
