Gold & Silver vs Guns & Ammo Vs Food & Water
If some one has to start preparing for economic collapse & shit hits the fan which of the above should a person spend their money preparing for this? Most people only have limited spending cash so what are your thoughts about the importance of spending it on mmetals vs firearms vs food & water. What order do you rank these items on your prep list ?

Let's think about this...

Guns, Ammo, Non-perishable Food, Water, Fire, Fire accessories, A book on plants for medicine and food, A book on surviving, and that's about it... Anything that has to do with protection and survival.

Re: Gold & Silver vs Guns & Ammo Vs Food & Water
You can't eat gold and silver. You can trade them as long as someone has a surplus of food and water and is willing to accept them. In history someone has always been willing to accept them, but at highly variable exchange rates.

With a .22 rifle it is possible to hunt wild game. However, most animals taken in the wild in history were taken by trapping, not by hunting. This is a historical fact.

Wild game availablity is highly dependent upon carrying capacity. If more people are shooting at the same creatures less of them will exist. There are not an infinite amount f creatures, and is certainly true is that around villages that grew into towns and then cities, less and less creatures survived this process. It is highly dependent upon location. In the long term, if there is a collapse, there will very few wild game animals.

One could become a sociopath and take food and water from others, until an equilibrium was reached and there wasn't any food to be taken. Unless one can raise food and water, then having a gun and ammunition will not help you.

Skills like shooting a gun, trapping, digging a well, raiding animals for protein, growing crops, foraging for plants, and learning herbs for medicine are the ultimate way to cope.

You need supplies for the Winter to Spring months, seed to plant, and skills to know how to utilize them all. Since one can't do everything well, historically there was specialization. This means that trade will always occur.

Unless you have a trade item that will prove acceptible for what you desire, then it will be useless. In truth, gold is either a conductor for electronics or for jewelry. Both are luxury items post-collapse.

Salt would be more valuable and less expensive and is useful and won't go bad.

Oh, and if you still have money left over to spend after all that^, then yes metals would be good.

Now let's consider the whole solar flare doom scenario where the electric grid gets knocked out at some point. That would render house generators and anything that uses electricity useless... Is that correct?

toilet paper. When no one has it you'll be a God. You can decide who gets to wipe their ass. Just kidding. There is no right answer to your question. I would say food and water first. Then firearms along with training. Gold and silver last because of the expense. But everyone is in a different situation.

Depends on your situation, honestly. I am in a rural area, seeds and planting tools I have. Along with a personal carry firearm and a long gun. Also, There are like minded folks in my area that are doing the same (and that I trust). Know who you can team up with and let others know that they can team with you. Work as a group to see who has what, who's planning on getting what, and you can compensate accordingly.

Getting in better physical shape is another good step.
Honing a marketable skill (welding/mechanics/ammo-reloading) will also give you ways to trade for food/water/meds.
Liquor would be another good barter item to have IMO

Personally, I have done all of the above and still don't feel as ready as I want to be. I'm not sure of your $$ situation, but I have set aside 20 bucks/paycheck above my normal food budget, you can generally pick up a good amount of canned goods, dried beans, rice, etc. Also, I alternate weeks...meaning one check I get food, the next I get ammo, or batteries.

Do what you think is needed for your own situation.

None of it....

Location is everything with what's coming down the pike. If your in a bad location, your toast. I moved to a semi rural area that's 99% white and amish. And yeah I keep buying food, protection, security etc. I'd work on location first.....

Actually, I am pretty much fully prepped with about a dozen like minded friends who are good to go. We live in town near wilderness to boot with bug out locations stocked and defensible.

For a person to survive with little notice, unprepped like sandy or Katrina"victims" a gun can help survive longer term as well as defend you. Take what you need to the limits of your conscience and willingness to die or end up in jail.

A good list of prepped mormons, for example, could be invaluable. That's why I don't prep publicly and only a relative trusted few are aware of anything I have prepped. Opsec

Here's some inexpensive water resources to get you rolling. You can get them cheaper if you search a little. Usually, you can find Lifestaws for about $20.

Food - Beans and rice to get you started

Guns and Ammo - .22 rifle first and then a pump shotgun

Gold and Silver - If your finances are minimal, don't bother.

Re: Gold & Silver vs Guns & Ammo Vs Food & Water
I don't think "prepping" beyond having suitable supplies for the expected natural disasters in your area or extended power outages is worth it at all. Sure, by all means have enough stored food and water for at least a few weeks, candles, flashlights (headlamps are less awkward for many tasks), extra prescription drugs, basic first aid training/supplies, some cash on hand and all that jazz.

But the whole "prepper" lifestyle is a joke. Hell, there are now even businesses that cater to fools who think they are going to hold off the zombie hordes with the help of their wife, two sons and their tricked-out ARs. Those people really need to get a life. I don't care how well "prepped" you are, your stupid little family homestead will be overrun by sheer numbers in no time. Unless you've got a sizeable force, landmines and crew-served weapons and even then...

Think Benghazi. Those four guys fought bravely, by some accounts killing 60 of the attackers but they had a machinegun and the training to use it. Of course, there is only so much ammo and if the bad guys just keep coming...

"BE PREPARED" is the Boy Scout motto. having a boy scout handbook should be an essential for anyone who is talking about prepping.

If the guys in Benghazi had a few H&K .22 mp5's with a couple thousand rounds of ammo, they could have possibly held off the whole attack. All for less than $2,000. But instead, $2,000 went to a bunch of Obama voters, so they could buy flaming hots.

There is no such thing as a ".22 H&K MP5" since it fires a 9mm round. A pistol round. It is a small arm, even less powerful than something like an AR or AK. You need crew served weapons like light machine guns and mortars to fend off a massed assault. End of story.

Small doom : gold $ silver.
Medium doom : Guns $ ammo.
THE DOOM : Food $ water.
The Apocalypse : doesn't matter what.

Nobody knows what kind of doom will be or if there will be only one doom or the doom won't evolve into a bigger doom or apocalypse.

My advice : have a piece of land, with a water source, preferabily deep on countryside.Have the guns and ammo already.Have seeds already.Have basic medicine already.

A small quantity of gold is useful in first stages of a greater doom, or if there is a small doom, taht world can recover shortly after. That gold will be changed for guns/seed/medicine/generator/ammo if the small doom becomes bigger.

Most who are smart enough to stock up on food and water are smart enough to be prepared to defend it. You're right in that some will be a target of opportunity but are you planning on going door to door to see if they have guns? Not sure what your plan is and you might get lucky a few times but you won't last long if that's your plan, sorry.
