I then google searched 'met office winter weather warning', to be presented with an article, by the met office (which I linked to), that stated that they've predicted no such thing, as the science to predict such a thing doesn't even exist.

If you'd read the link, you'd see that they even said that the article was written specifically because of papers writing bullshit headlines.

Fact remains;

IF the Jet stream stays in the same position it was all summer, it could well get bitterly cold.

Because it would allow polar air coming right down our end of the woods.

Having a proper winter now and then must not be a bad thing in itself.

A little preparation can go a long way;

Get some canned soups, some long live milk, perhaps some ready to bake bread rolls and you are fine.

the problem is for the most part british winters are mild, so when any snow hits, its a problem. we dont have the need for massive equipment sitting around for several winters in a row doing nothing

if you get bad weather all the time like in canada, then obviously the country will be geared up for what is normal weather
