Windows 8 is doing so bad they have to bring back the start button

They pushed this turd out just In time for Xmas

Isn't that like when you go to take a shit a few hours before you normally do? It always makes for a bad dump. I guess we can think of Windows 8 as a dump before it's time.

I can remember 15 years ago when people were complaining about how stupid it was that you have to use the Start button to turn the computer off. Now people can't live without it...

Sorry windows 2000 was the best. Before that i always used windows NT4 cuz the 9x kernels were horrid.

Windows 8 ill use win7 till end of life than switch to linux since ms cant make a good os anymore.

every version of windows up to now, could have easily been added on to windows 95.

But it's cause they want to make money by pretending everything is so new all the time. Like the latest iphone line up for that.

Windows 8 is fine for tablets, horrible if you use desktop.

You wouldn't use a phone OS to run your computer, so don't use a tab OS to do the same.

It's a fine OS. They cleaned up a lot of annoyances from W7. It works fine on a desktop. W7 was boring.

I like it. I wouldn't mind the start menu back, but a lot of the under the hood changes are nice and I've gotten used to the start bar. People just don't like change, and like something to rant about and stir up drama.

I was particularly impressed how it seemed to find drivers for everything including my wireless networked printer, how fast it installed and how painless it was to get things going, and how they included microsoft security essentials antivirus by default.

If you have a netbook with windows 7, windows 8 will be a nice speed improvement.

Give it more time. You can pin all the same crap to the start bar that you had on the start menu, and you have the whole screen to use to choose your program, instead of a little menu. It's nice once you tweak it.. and yes powerusers do have to tweak things out of the box.

People and corps don't like spending MILLIONS and MILLIONS to retrain work forces and be FORCED to buy new software upgrades for BILLIONS on top of the OS costs....all for the simple reason of Microsoft's business model for making money.

I'll say it again, people just don't like change. I was against the start bar at first, but if a person takes an hour or two to learn it, it's really not that hard to figure out.

Plus nobody is forcing businesses to use the latest version of windows. They can use the old versions. It takes most of them a decade to finally upgrade as it is.

Microsoft offered this OS as cheap as they've ever offered one to individuals... $15 or $40 for the product keys which can be clean installed. It's admittedly the first time in my life I've ever bought more than one product key for any windows product, I've pirated most of them up until windows 7.

If I could get the entire population to switch from the outdated qwerty keyboard layout to colemak, I would, because it's just better. Unfortunately we'll be using qwerty until we no longer use keyboards because people won't relearn things.

From what I highlighted....

YOU JUST PROVED YOURSELF.... YES....they are FORCED eventually to upgrade.

Why should a company refit their ENTIRE operations with new software when all the older stuff works fine??...and have to retrain EVERYONE on the new software?...and buy NEW software to work on the new OS ?

100% unnecessary costs unless FORCED to comply...and that is EXACTLY what Microsofts business model is....FORCED upgrades to new O/S'es that are much different than the old OS's.

I don't own a business so I really am not as heated about that issue as you. I will leave the business aspect in your capable hands. I'm an individual user here typing while laying in bed here.

As for upgrading, well yes, people should not be using 10 year old hardware and 10 year old operating systems. It's called technological advancement and progress.

Can anyone sell me a cheap copy of Windows 7 if you have upgraded? Thank You.

I hear this OVER and OVER from businesses I support....and I always give them options so they DONT have to spend money on forced upgrades.

As for 10 years....most companies turn over physical PC assets every 5 years MAX....but O/S'es are tied to operations and custom built software for those O/S models.
Upgrading them is not called PROGRESS ....it's called HARDSHIP and WASTED MONEY.

True, It was not easy to find that one.

I hate fucking tablets and if that's an OS made with tablets in mind Im certainly gonna stay away from it.

W7 was a very good thing though, I was in love with it since first encounter. I liked ubuntu too but I spent more time reading tutorials than actually using it so it had to go.

you do have a point, sir. I can see how that would be irritating. If I swap out a video card and now I have to call microsoft because I'm no longer activated, yes it's quite irritating. :) It was this irritation combined with having to speak to a rep over the phone I could barely understand try to spout off a long list of letters and numbers so I could reactivate, that led me to pirating windows as long as I did. Activation crack means no hassle.

However they did a lot of things that sped up windows 8 compared to windows 7 so I'm still nonetheless pleased. I like the under the hood changes. I like how easy it finds drivers, how seamless the whole process went for myself.

This is coming from someone running a 'local account' and not using any apps... hahaha.. oh well.

I know you are talking about a gaming console...but businesses are doing this as well.
They ask for engineered solutions AROUND the forced requirements so they can get another 5 or 6 years out of the old stuff....especially in this economy.
They stay legal as far as licensing....but circumvent the forced upgrades.
VMware is one of the many great tools for this process....and there are other sneaky ways as well.

Bad economy...and going to get worse.... means Microsoft is going to have a tough sell jamming massively flawed Win8 to corporate and SMB environments.

Bought a new laptop with 8 on it Saturday.

VERY steep learning curve coming from XP.
But I'm finding that all the control panel and tweaky stuff seems to be there.
But I don't have to mess with it at all!
I turned it on and it connected to my wifi without having to go into all sorts of menus.
I don't feel like I have to manage anything. It just works.
And I have yet to see a "Contact your administrator to fix this problem" message.

And I have the choice to use Tiles or a more traditional desktop as the main working area. Pretty cool.

I'm growing to like it very much.

do you still need to use disk defrag and does the system slow down when the hard drive is 50 percent full?
