Go ahead... buy yourself a Christmas Present or two...
Just heard a commercial on the radio. A female voice actors begins by stating: "My sister always has the best looking place for the holidays, but not this year. [something, something] I'll really show her up this year with my new floors from [something]."

Than the announcer comes on to announce this flooring retailer's Christmas Special... And then something about how you deserve to treat yourself this holiday season.

And it's absolutely everywhere this year, in all kinds of advertising. This "Christmas is for you!" idea.

WTF!!!

Anyone else noticing it?

Should I wrap it, put it under the Christmas tree, and then wonder 'oh whatever could it be?'?

Ever since the kids were little (I was a single parent) I would buy myself something little for in the stocking and then I'd thank my kids for it. Every year I laugh at the looks on their faces.
Trick is to use a different colored wrap paper so they don't associate this gift with matching the ones they know you bought.

Then they'd say, honest mom, we didn't get you that, I'd pass it off as if it wasn't you it has to be St Nick or the Christmas Angel.

Re: Go ahead... buy yourself a Christmas Present or two...
It's a sign of economic troubles, but with a slightly hopeful edge. The idea is that people aren't spending as much on themselves, but not because they don't have the funds, rather due to fear that they won't later.

That's one definition of what a depression is. Caused by fear of not having enough, rather than honest shortages.

Which is why we always have them, in cycles and won't ever be able to control the market forces totally. Humans are quasi herd animals and panic in groups.

But they also move that way...

So treat yourself to something nice this year! It helps you and the economy.
