Is Anyone Else Out There All Alone This Thanksgiving Holiday???

No, I wouldn't dream of taking a meal away from someone who is less fortunate than me and may be hungry. I have the means to feed myself, its just the togetherness with my family I will miss.

I just wondered if anyone out here on GLP is spending Thanksgiving alone like me?

I'll be alone and working out of town, so a hotel room and maybe mcdonald's. It gets a little depressing.

if you are alone on a holiday.. take yourself where other people are.... not to engage, but simply to observe... feeling other people around you is a quick sure fire way not to be alone :)

These are people who feel alone even in a crowd. The ones arround them are so distant, they might as well be miles away. They are beyond alone. Whatever connections they might have had in life have abandoned them. Their lives have lost all purpose. As the winter cold slowly sets in the fire in them slowly burns out... thousands of fires will go out tomorrow.

I work a bullshit retail job at night (8pm Thanksgiving eve opener) in addition to a daytime job. I yearn to be with my family, in fact I want nothing more for this holiday.

Longtime BF invited his parents over for dinner, because mine are 4+ hours away and I do not have the means or the hours available to travel and visit for the day . He gives me 1 day notice to shop and clean.

As I was scrubbing the floors today and cleaning up, I asked him if he was going to help out. He immediately realized he couldn't handle the pressure of cleaning + preparing a nice meal and being a good dinner host. Online games and TV shows are too important.

Proceeds to tell me I am a bitch because I ask for a little assistance with some housework that I, myself did not make plans for. He says he doesn't care if our apartment is a mess and it does not matter if I prepare anything for dinner. Calls his parents, tells them Thanksgiving is off because his GF (me) is too unstable to handle it.

In my honest opinion, if you are inviting someone over for a meaningful experience such as Thanksgiving, you should be prepared to help out, instead of criticize the one who will be doing the majority of the work.

All in all, this is a bullshit holiday excuse for corporate to make their paycheck off of your hard work. If you get this day off as a paid holiday, and do not need the hours to make ends meet, then good for you. If not, I am pulling for you, you and I are what makes this country run smoothly.

Hey you all THANK YOU for everyone who is replying and helping those who are also alone this holday. It seems like this time of year can be so depressing for those who have no loved ones. It always breaks my heart. It seems like being lonely can be as bad as being homeless and sometimes even worse.

Keep the loving thoughts and words coming! There are SOOO many people who need your love and hugs right now!

Ya, being alone and being lonely are two different things. Sure I could go bother someone in my family but afterall, I don't really think Thanksgiving is what it use to be. Hugs to ya OP and hope you don't feel too lonely.

I have some small chores to catch up on, and then perhaps I will just go to the Walmart parking lot and see how many people show up. (maybe not either).

Think of all the stress and bother you won't have to bother with and I know one bar that will be open Thanksgiving night, but I doubt if I will go there, even if they have snacks to munch on or something like that.

I have more important things to consider also lately and have to get done with the small chores because the day after will be a lot colder and what is it - Black Friday. Who cares, I sure don't about that day?

There is also some Churches giving out meals tomorrow also, but I doubt I go there and one who may be giving out (just at a mall) a dinner to about 2500 people. I am not sure of the number but perhaps I will end up there for once, since a lot of people go there.

Not everyone is about just taking or getting together anymore, and afterall, you have to look at eating too much anyway, which I do not need anymore.

But I have a dysfunctional family and the holidays depress me greatly...

I usually end up going off to myself for an hour and crying my eyes out.

Only to emerge moments later all cheery and smiling.

ehhh Could be worse.
