They tell people that you NEED to take X years of school in order to become smart.. when in truth, those who seek knowledge will be able to, using any means (like that african kid who built devices using trash, or people who spend their days in the library who end up learning more than the people who spend hundreds of thousands of dollars listening to an old stiff tell them how to write an essay) Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27652209 Most of our greatest inventors, musicians, writers and artists were all SELF TAUGHT I hope more youth realize that they hold the key to knowledge in their hands and that they don't need to rely on others to shape their destinies Sierra Leone is a hellhole, for ANYBODY to be able to do what this kid did is a huge achievement. Well done! |

"This is the capacitor" doesn't do it. A radio probably has many capacitors in it. Where's his oscilloscope to help him go thru the circuits and see what is going on? But it's great to see tinkerers there around the world, doing the right things. |

Completely self-taught, Kelvin has created his own radio station where he broadcasts news and plays music under the moniker, DJ Focus. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20703248 You can do much with so little. He didn't build that radio station. Other people did. |

Quoting: Lisa*Lisa While most kids in the USA can't even add and subtract after graduating high school, this kid is building things out of garbage with little to no education. And, not just things for himself, things to help his community. He's not only brilliant, but has a heart of gold, you can see it. The world needs more humans like this boy. Beautiful story OP, thanks for sharing it. Maybe in your community the kids can't count or read, but not where I live. The fact of the matter is that many communities produce very well educated high school graduates. Minority slums like Detroit (55% graduation rate if my memory serves me) drag down our national averages. How do white American high school graduates compare with those of other countries? Very well, thank you. |
