The I Have No Family or Friends For the Holidays Thread

Just got back from a moto-trip from Bloomington CA to Crestline CA, in the mountains north of here. Found a very small, quaint cafe. Sweetest, cutest waitress on the planet sold me a home-made turkey dinner with ALL the trimmings for $8.95!!!!! Time-warp anyone??? It was absolutely delicious! I have never had a better Thanksgiving meal and I'm 63. Looked to me her Mom was running the small kitchen. I think it's called The Crestline Cafe but I'm not sure. Bill caame to $11.88, I left a $10 tip.

Sure beat sitting around here crying, like I was this morning.

Hilarious Thanksgiving fun !

Yeah I've spent it alone too by choice ... It's been that way for years now. I make the most of it and cook a big meal, have wine, brownies, anything I want. I've had a lot of loved ones in the past and the personal relationships are not all they're cracked up to be. We think everything outside of us must be better if we feel flat inside. Well I tell you it's a lot of BS dealing with other people and special relationships. All the obligation, guilt, politeness(politics), familiarity(family), ... they tend to kill a tender heart with a smile and call it love when it's just possessiveness. If people can't control you then the love goes out the door. So friendship can be better than family but good friends are few and far between. Family will pull you close with their ego as if to push you away from their spirit, it seams.
I had a threshold spiritual experience when I was 20, now I'm 47 ... since then while at times I have been alone I have never felt lonely. I am conscious of the fact that I am literally surrounded by beings at all times. But that's just me. I spent a lot of the first half of my life addicted to people and relationships and seeing myself in their eyes ... Now it's just the opposite ... I surprise myself at how monastic I am, at how entertained I can be just sitting quietly in a chair for hours on end with nothing going on around me. It has taken years to arrive here and I have gone a spirit journey from one end to the other.
OP ... you think the grass is always greener on the other side ... it is an illusion ... the ego forms relationships out of nervousness and deep fear and seeks other egos to reinforce itself. They aren't real ... but sometimes you have to read a book just to find out that it has nothing to say.

This whole thread is a loserfest. Eating Doritos on Tday explains your decision making abilities, which is why you will always be alone unless you drastically change something. The losers that support you to encourage you are probably int he same IQ range.

So is 50 your age or your guess of my age? I'm 53 but look and feel 35. Just got home from a GREAT Thanksgiving at my friend's house. Life is what you make it.

The tough part OP...is the big build up to "the day" everyone makes a big deal about. Calender countdown...everyone asking what you'll be doing that day...facebook pics of their cooked turkey's...blah blah....it's just a dinner. I'm thankful all year long and don't need a day to remind me how fortunate I am. But I'm always glad when the holidays are over. What's funny is my friends with family always tell me they envy my spending it alone.
