President Obama wants tax increases for the wealthy and to extend tax cuts for families making $250,000 or less
President Barack Obama plans to make a public case this week for his strategy for dealing with the looming fiscal cliff, traveling to the Philadelphia suburbs Friday as he pressures Republicans to allow tax increases on the wealthy while extending tax cuts for families earning $250,000 or less.

The White House said Tuesday that the president intends to hold a series of events to build support for his approach to avoid across-the-board tax increases and steep spending cuts in defense and domestic programs. Obama will meet with small business owners at the White House on Tuesday and with middle-class families on Wednesday.

Cool! When their employers are forced to lay them off to give more money to the govt. their income tax rates will go down 100%.

That's a great strategy!

Yes. I'm an employer. I will adjust my labor costs to offset my tax increases. Many that I know are planning to do the same. All of my employees were required to sign a noncompete agreement right after the election to keep their positions. Not all will be able to stay on, I fear.

people that are making that much money can afford paying the increased tax rate without laying people off. I think this is a wonderful idea. The trickle down theory is complete bullshit and total propaganda.

We will never pay off the debt; so it does not matter one way or the other -- except that the rich have way too much power in this country. They need to be knocked off their pedestal ASAP.

It is a very sad affair when the rich get richer and the poor get poorer -- yet there you are, defending the rich. Talk about a pitiful state of affairs. I mean really, wow.

Non-compete agreements do not work. They are illegal. Not only that, you told them they needed to sign the paper to keep their job. This was not a requirement when you hired them. There is no gain for them agreeing to sign the non-compete and therefore the contract is null and void, legally.

You can not prevent someone from doing business in their trained profession. This is a Supreme Court decision.

You as an employer are an a$$hole. You can not prevent competition by attempting to prevent your employees from doing what they are trained to do. Good luck with that.

All the rich people I know have foundations and corporations and can "adjust" their own personal income accordingly. They can show a loss any time they want.

Otherwise, they will just fire people to compensate for their losses.

I personally think we should all have a flat tax....rich and poor, and everyone in between.

I also think congress out to ban any more executive orders.

OK, let's assume you work with artists. If you had them sign a contract saying they could not be artists if they don't work for you -- it is completely non-binding for several reasons. It would be like asking a software engineer that works in finance or security to sign a paper that says they can not work in finance or security for two years after leaving a position with your firm. This has already been decided in the supreme court and it is not legally binding.

Too bad. You better rethink your position before laying those people off...

The new taxes include capital gains on home sales previously exempt. Not just capital gains either but even if the home is sold for a loss the sales proceeds are now taxable as income.

Shitty artists are always libs. They can't sell their art and thus...well you know.

They are lots of artists that are libertarians.

We don't do paint. They are free to get their art on if they want. Just not doing what we do here within a 100 mile radius for 2 years.

It's not blackmail, it's a condition of their employment. None minded to sign...at least I didn't start drug testing.

If my taxes go up past a certain percentage, I'll have no choice but to adjust. Personnel is the only place i have the wiggle room. It's not spite, it's math.

12.7 Trillion-euro zone to 15.1 Trillion US debt this is not comparable when you consider land mass and resources of each entity. Without a doubt, each would benefit from less borrowing and living within their means and that means far less government and government meddling into businesses.

Could you image allowing people to use their brains and skills to find solutions for unemployment instead of waiting for a bloated socialist government to further screw things up by further expanding the government dependent class?
