No the government decided to make it more difficult to file bankruptcy for the public, but no problem for them. Exactly. And I find it funny that Congress has spent us into this deep shit, and somehow the Democrat party keeps saying it's the responsibility of "the wealthy" to dig us out (which is now mathematically impossible even at a 100% tax rate). The "millionairs and billionaires" didn't spend us into collapse, the gawdamned Congress and the "President" did. Let them pay for it. Seize their assets and liquidate them. You're naive - the congress spends money on things like imperialist wars, bank bailouts, the military industrial complex, and corporate welfare which end up in the pockets of the millionaires and billionaires. In addition, things like globalism and free trade and low taxes for the top decrease revenue for us and therefore contribute to the debt - all that money also goes in to the pockets of the top. Like this bailout - the banks made bad loans they should take the loss. Instead the people will and the bonus money the bank's management and ceos made while those loans were on the right side of the ledger they get to keep. |

The eighties were all about debt as a means to success. Student loans were actually pushed on many of us by eager beaver, on campus bank reps and fed loan folks as a cool way to pay for school. The interest was over ten percent and each semester actually calculated separately. The interest actually accrued exponentially. Most twenty something's couldn't grasp that. They can "print", say $1,000,000 for "x" number of kids to go to college. That money gets paid back, (which is all profit since it cost the government virtually nothing) plus interest! They are generating revenue for themselves out of thin air and it materializes out of the student's pocket. There is an excellent video on the 'tube called "wealth as debt" or "money as debt" which is really a cartoon but does an excellent job of explaining how our banking system works. This is also why our own government was so quick to bail out the crooked bastards on Wall Street; because the returns are 110% profit. Pull "money" out of thin air, give it to corrupt bankers and get REAL money back. If fuckin' magic! I only believe half of what I read and even half of that is bullshit. |

If banks are bailed-out while people are left on the street - all this bitching about helping the young people seems over the top - like displaced resentment or something... Here, we'll tell you all through school you need to go to college, you'll go to college and rack up some form of debt - now good luck finding a job sucker - you tried to follow good advice and got shafted for trying to better yourself... I think young people could use a boost - notice how some regard us like trash - so some act like trash - where is that better full-proof role-model and ideal job-path? Full payment, over the top, proportional assistance so the future of America can have some breathing room? Why not? Bitchin' on both sides isn't helping anything, school isn't $20 like it was in the 70s - and we have to pay our dues - is a compromise impossible because everyone is so damn opinionated? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28858864 Socialism is an economic system characterized by social ownership of the means of production and co-operative management of the economy, and a political philosophy advocating such a system. Or an easier way of understanding socialism is simply the government planning of the economy. This has been done through bailing out failed companies, manipulating interest rates, price controls, wage controls (minimum wage laws) work hours controls, tax breaks to politically connected corporations, subsidizing farmers, GM, Solyndra, etc., subsidizing health care, forced participation in medicare and social security...the list goes on and on. SO YES WE HAVE RAMPANT SOCIALISM IN THIS COUNTRY! Ah half a definition - a socialist economic system would consist of a system of production and distribution organized to directly satisfy economic demands and human needs, so that goods and services would be produced directly for use instead of for private profit What we have is s system which supports private enterprises that make profits which are then paid to the top of the economic chain - that's not socialism. Then they make sure they reduce the capital gains and dividend taxes and the income taxes so the wealth stays at the top. That's also not socialism. We have s system that rewards the TOP and punishes the middle and bottom (now with austerity and cuts to entitlements because of massive wealth transfers via deficit spending). Exactly the OPPOSITE of what a socialist system would do. Again STFU if you have no clue. You are either an idiot or a liar. Believe what you want dipshit. Socialist systems don't have a profit motive and allow wealth to consolidate at the top - so either you're an idiot (who doesn't understand a simple concept) or you're just an idiot. Either way it's morons like you who keep the "socialism is bad" meme going strong - the top applauds you. the "cream" always rises to the top, my socialist dimwit, no matter what checks or balances one puts in their system there will always be those who do better than others, ALWAYS. |
