The "good" thing about socialism is that it ALWAYS fails. Our socialist government and centrally planned economy is about to collapse completely. Then we can rebuild into an anarcho-capitalism system which will bring prosperity, wealth, fairness, and freedom to middle class and working poor. The moochers will obviously be upset because they will actually have to be productive and work for a living.

If the government won't be held accountable for paying off their debts, then why should the American public?

I payed on my loans for twenty years as a single father and I barely made interest payments. I have never been on welfare and have always worked two jobs. Wake the fuck up. Scheme promotes borrowing as responsible fiscal policy. The eighties were all about debt as a means to success. Student loans were actually pushed on many of us by eager beaver, on campus bank reps and fed loan folks as a cool way to pay for school. The interest was over ten percent and each semester actually calculated separately. The interest actually accrued exponentially. Most twenty something's couldn't grasp that. The AmScheme tried to convince students that borrowing money actually equates to greater overall lifetime earning power. Now they rescind that notion. We still use this mentality in housing and credit policy. " buy now and save" is our national mantra. Credit scores, for example,reward the use of credit and punish those using cash or saving instead of spending. It's systemic. But why blame the culture when you can blame those that got suckered into believing what it taught?

here's a clue for you old man. i never took out a college loan because i paid as i went. there were days when i lived on macaroni and butter just to make the tuition bill and buy books, all the while working two jobs and PAYING taxes, so fuck you and fuck your loans.

yes, re-newed capitalism. capitalism has done more to lift more people out of poverty than any other system known to man. that our capitalist system was infected with socialism is the reason it no longer is working and we are dying as a capitalist nation.

Our system was infected with vulture capitalism and crony capitalism not socialism - when the government passes laws that enrich the top (90% of all wealth now in the hand of the top 10%) that's not socialism. Stop throwing around terms which you don't understand.

Socialism is an economic system characterized by social ownership of the means of production and co-operative management of the economy, and a political philosophy advocating such a system.

Or an easier way of understanding socialism is simply the government planning of the economy. This has been done through bailing out failed companies, manipulating interest rates, price controls, wage controls (minimum wage laws) work hours controls, tax breaks to politically connected corporations, subsidizing farmers, GM, Solyndra, etc., subsidizing health care, forced participation in medicare and social security...the list goes on and on.

Ah half a definition - a socialist economic system would consist of a system of production and distribution organized to directly satisfy economic demands and human needs, so that goods and services would be produced directly for use instead of for private profit

What we have is s system which supports private enterprises that make profits which are then paid to the top of the economic chain - that's not socialism. Then they make sure they reduce the capital gains and dividend taxes and the income taxes so the wealth stays at the top. That's also not socialism. We have s system that rewards the TOP and punishes the middle and bottom (now with austerity and cuts to entitlements because of massive wealth transfers via deficit spending). Exactly the OPPOSITE of what a socialist system would do. Again STFU if you have no clue.
