Quoting: The Tauremini To my knowledge Norway isn't in the Euro-Zone but it is part of NATO (correct me if I'm wrong).. I was interested in the article's description of this deployment being "significant for its size and where it is". They seem to be getting ready for something to happen in Europe. Connect the dots. Poland, Czech, Italy etc recently called up a significant number of reserve troops, and just prior to that Switzerland said that they'd need to mobilize the army soon. Now this. Norway "IS" a NATO country. [link to www.nato.int] |

Resources, shipping lanes etc. There's been lots of talk about it in the past few years. Russia is simply reevaluating their priorities, the Arctic is contested and the boundaries are not clear. Russia is committed to working out the best deal possible for them and to guard their position. I don't see what the big deal is. All major countries do this. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4443279 You've got it spot on. Two brigades isn't much, anyway - roughly 6,000 troops in an army that is just slightly over one million strong. I'd chalk this up as a routine rotation of troops and not as anything particularly sinister - or foreboding. |

This kind of brigades are ideal for peacekeeping or defensive operations, having little to no value in offensive operations (low to no recon elements, and limited mobility artilery, with long setup times). Now that is a different take...maybe the Russians are preparing...for an invasion from Norway?!?!?! Something NATO related? |
