these words mean different things to different humans.

meaning the same thing as you i would use the reverse analogy: feel from below, ignore (salt well) the above.

why? u might ask.

because, my experience of the 'above' are my thoughts, the fast squirmy bits that zip thru my 'upper' mind: spurious and often misleading are these ideas from the 'top of my mind'. i have watched them flux and morph constantly presenting new and often incorrect viewoints: this 'concious' mind of mine.
i see it'above' me.

but when i make art and when i move with the flow, my upper thoughts are calm and stick to the task at hand, playing their proper roll in the moment, but leaving the true guiding to *feelings* that for me , come from bellow: from the depths of my true mind that my thought mind just cannot touch.

the quite thoiughts/feelings that 'rise' to the surface while my busy mind is distracted and quiesent: these do i trust and when i allow myself to be guided by these frequently "irrational' (means to 'reasonable' explanation) that my life flows in unpredictably wonderfull ways.

for me, my feelings come from bellow.

and 'trust' works better than 'understanding'.
