It shows that the majority of people want to be taxed for internet sales! I don't believe that BS for a second, not saying what the OP posted was BS, just that those polls and surveys are almost always, paid for, biased lies! We already have to pay for the internet and all the devices to access the web. We pay high dollar for these products and services already, not to mention the taxes already involved in owning and maintaining these services, and now they want to tax us more for using these devices when we shop online. Everyone will suffer including businesses selling online. I have been saying for years that one day they will start taxing internet sales, we all knew it was coming. But we don't have to like it or put up with it! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 19612400 United States 12/06/2012 02:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | this year I almost suggested to the rest of the family to forget Christmas gifts. If this passes, we will no longer buy gifts.... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28870983 Still give gifts but only gifts you can make (and make for under 10 dollars per person or higher if you have less people). All locally made things that each person came up with that you thought the other person would like - not what some corporation came up with and poisioned you and everyone else to think you need. Just something that tells people that you love them. We will have to sink a couple of levels before that happens in any big way but there is no time like the present for me :) |

I guess they are going to give the tax precedes to them? of course not silly...but I'm dumb enough to think this is Dandy too....after all I don't deserve the money I labored for...I don't do anything for the community (like those nifty merchants)...and the fact that I payed tax on the little bit of money I made before I ever got it...well thats just wrong thinking....Im ashamed of how selfish it is even to think that way.... OH I get now... |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 8260452 United States 12/06/2012 03:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If they pass a national sales tax law on online shopping that will completely change the nature of the sales tax. A sales tax is a tax charged to the seller at the point of sale, who almost always passes on that charge to the buyer. This law would then change the nature of the sales tax into a purchase tax. What a can of worms this will open. This is going to lead to double taxation where both the point of sale and the point of purchase are liable for sales tax when they are in different states. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 636900 United States 12/06/2012 07:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This may be the last Christmas of online shopping without paying sales tax. Quoting: OutdoorsMan A proposed online sales tax has been offered as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, much to the ire of opponents. ... “Severing the relationship between taxation and physical presence would be a fundamental transformation in how we consider taxes,” Black continued. “Such a significant step deserves more extensive consideration than attachment to the unrelated Defense Authorization bill.” Still, a recent poll indicates that the majority of Americans support the idea, describing an online sales tax as “common sense”. They also feel that a tax for online purchases would encourage people to buy local and keep tax dollars in their community. “Local retailers invest in their communities and play a significant role in the overall quality of life in the places we call home,” said Betsy Laird, senior vice president of global public policy for the International Council of Shopping Centers. Why is it always that the damn government has their hands in the people's pockets? CORRUPT BASTARDS. |
