Lots of city works with new play areas and new swimming pools being built by the city all the time. City is booming with floods of wealthy middle class folk moving in. Stores all doing a roaring trade. A new shoppnig complex in the heart of town was fully rented and busy even before the workmen had finished. Wages booming even for low level work. Place? Aylmer, Quebec. |

Yet to try and bring in optional ways to the present balance. This would in turn only create inflation unto all the part not receiving as good as even those who were having good and were those who are keeping the inflation down for all. I would rather have some getting more good and all not suffering under inflation. Because once the inflation enters it takes from even those who have the least as well and those who have more. All this does is take away from not give unto anything or one. This would be a no win situation and one in the long run that hurts everybody. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 29057127 United States 12/06/2012 02:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What economy? All there is to look forward to around here is getting your food stamp card and getting SSI. We have no factories nearby that the average Joe can get a job at, there are a few places that build electronic components for government rocket guidance systems and such but you need a special security clearance to get in those places and the starting pay is a mere $10 an hour. Sure the pay goes up eventually but with a family to support and student loans to pay, I doubt I could survive until I got a raise. On the first of the month the stores are packed for a couple days and then they turn into a ghost town after all that SSI money is spent on a few groceries, booze, and dope. Me, I got hurt at my last job in 2010 and have had a few surgeries to try to fix my problems. Right after my workplace accident I was told there wasn't a job for me and I should file for unemployment. I had to fight with those bastards for months to get workers comp. Now that I am on it they keep giving me a hard time and I'll have a surgery scheduled only to go for my pre-op testing and be turned away because the insurance denies to pay for the tests. I'm often told I can pay for the tests myself and the insurance can reimburse me but it never happens they still owe me a couple hundred because of that scam. It is sickening. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1283316 Canada 12/06/2012 02:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Things are fine here. The area I work in was a run-down, former industrial part of town 15 years ago. Now it has been fully redeveloped, new office space and condos going up all around, plenty of cranes up and construction work going on. My company is hiring at a fever pitch, and in fact bring in guys from S. America because we can't seem to get good software developers locally for some reason. Myself, I came through the crash and recession just fine, many stocks I bought near the bottom have come right back up. I live way below my considerable means and spend very little on frivolities (although I am probably going to pull the trigger on a Rolex Submariner next year... I've always wanted one and can actually afford it now.) Life is good... Now only if I could get me some pussy once in awhile. It's been years and I lack the social skills and confidence to pursue women. Oh well. I guess we can't all be good at everything and there's always escorts or massage parlors if I need them... |

I'm very sorry to hear that...I was raised in Huntington, thought LI was a great place to live back when Down in Dallas and Austin things are pretty good, lots of people going out to eat, buying expensive cars, many luxury apartment buildings going up by me ...although when you leave the city and head out to some of the smaller towns in the region there are many for sale and for lease signs in the centers of town so far so good, but I know it is worse elsewhere.... |

Quoting: Empty Head 1180229 How badly are you affected by the economic downturn? In my house, the economy is strong. On my street, it seems OK too. In my community, I've heard people are leaving town due to no jobs. The thing is, I live in a "bedroom community". There have never been jobs here. People would live here and commute 45 minutes each way to jobs in the city we are near. I think now people are moving to that city to save on fuel and vehicle depreciation, etc. Fine with me. The fewer people in my area when TSHTF, the better. |
