So, how do you think the Satanic Bible, being of fairly recent origin, will stand the test of time like the other texts that you've read?

It probably won't last very long. It is basically atheism with a set of fangs, but the idea of 'satan' is to some just a little to much to handle.
It's a distillation of Nietzche, Ayn Rand, Jack London, G.B Shaw and a few others (Ragnar Redbeard specifically), but will never appeal to enough people to stand the test of time.
I believe it was La Vey's intention to keep the timid and the frightened away, but he may have screwed himself in doing so.

Were you as disappointed in the shallowness of it as I was? :(

Well, to be fair it was published as a mass market paperback so I don't think La Vey would have done the right thing saleswise by turning out a 900 page satanic grimoire.
I'd say he gave interested people enough to whet their appetites and explore further themselves.
It's never been out of print since it was published, so it certainly has appeal, but I believe that appeal lies mainly with the 'oooh, I'm so naughty because I have a satanic bible' brigade.
I think perhaps the lunatic fringe christians also keep it in print by buying it to burn lol!

To me it seemed like an esoteric book for housewives with the occasional pages of pure gibberish. I was not impressed.

He tried, but failed miserably because he assumed that I am Afrikaans. With SA's demographic being what it is there was more chance of me being a Zulu or Xhosa.

Philosophy, I'd say. But he also cottoned onto the business side of it (as any rational person would do), so I'd say to a large extent he was economically driven.
That said though, he was a man of intelligence and he was certainly knowledgeable with regards religion, philosophy and esoteric subjects.
Being what he was though, it's difficult to determine his sincerity...but that was part of his plan I believe. :-)

I think he knew that it would be read by all kinds of people, but particularly the not so bright squad who would buy it for its 'evilness'.
So, yes. It's pretty easy to read and there's a lot of editorial fattening at the back.
He was aware of how much people love esoteric mumbo jumbo so it was included for them I believe.

Certainly not evil, but then I've never been frightened of intangibles like 'evil', 'demons', 'witches' etc.
It was written to appeal to amass audience, so it's not exactly top notch literature... :-)
