Humans don't just make war. We are good. Don't let the small minded elite and their edicts forcing good men to do bad things ruin your love and hope and trust of humanity. |

I think we should get intouch with our animal selves . And stop referring to animal instinct as if its a bad thing. Animals kill to eat usually ,although at times they fight and play. |

They murder each other, and commit rape, sodomy, and even cannabalism. This isn't coincidence, that their acts of violence are so close to ours. It's in our DNA. Embracing our instincts is exactly what we must stop doing. We need to ascend past our base instincts into higher morality and ethics. |

Most animals on the whole are peaceful. Doesnt that tell us something? They are not technologically attuned but perhaps this is a good thing. Without humans on the planet they would probably create a much healthier planet. And not only that but they would be like angels, without much sin. And probably even start to support each other. |

Whereas animals seem to dare I say it " think" before acting on impulse, the impulse of emotion. My point is we are a lower life form not they. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1691693 In our case we're different. We're a violent species when we listen to our instincts. We need to do the opposite. We need to ignore our instincts, but not ignore nature. Listen to it, and our own higher conscience. Media, Politics, Consumerism, everything these days is based on the instant gratification system stroking our base urges, which feeds into and strengthens our reliance on our instinct minds so that we become more feral, more violent, more hateful and spiteful. We want violence, and sex, because it fulfills our instinctual cravings. Watching people judged and torn apart and having their dreams shattered on live tv has become our blood sport. Watching sexy girls shake their asses on commercials and in music videos has become our circus. We need to move away from it and pursue intellectual, moral, spiritual pursuits. Only when we do this will we ascend past the circle of pain and suffering we've trapped ourselves in. |

In fact, we're the most empathic species by far. That's why the videos of animals caring for others are so special - it's not normal animal behavior. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 300884 I think the problem is when you have little to no contact with most people, or the contact you have is mostly negative your worldview of people changes to be one that most people are negative. I've been there. Most people, while base creatures, aren't murdering rapists. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 17090286 United States 12/10/2012 12:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes excess and quick solutions. We end up chasing our tails. Instead of looking at issues head on. I believe animals are better for the planet and therefore we should seek their peace and truth. Although simplistic. Animal nature is more at in sync with the universe. And I think also were over ambitious as humans we want it all to be god, to worship god, to be at one with. God meaning everything as we know it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1691693 There is no quick solution. I subscribe to Nieztche on the subject of being one with Nature or One with God: "You desire to LIVE "according to Nature"? Oh, you noble Stoics, what fraud of words! Imagine to yourselves a being like Nature, boundlessly extravagant, boundlessly indifferent, without purpose or consideration, without pity or justice, at once fruitful and barren and uncertain: imagine to yourselves INDIFFERENCE as a power--how COULD you live in accordance with such indifference? To live--is not that just endeavouring to be otherwise than this Nature? Is not living valuing, preferring, being unjust, being limited, endeavouring to be different? And granted that your imperative, "living according to Nature," means actually the same as "living according to life"--how could you do DIFFERENTLY? Why should you make a principle out of what you yourselves are, and must be? In reality, however, it is quite otherwise with you: while you pretend to read with rapture the canon of your law in Nature, you want something quite the contrary, you extraordinary stage-players and self-deluders! In your pride you wish to dictate your morals and ideals to Nature, to Nature herself, and to incorporate them therein; you insist that it shall be Nature "according to the Stoa," and would like everything to be made after your own image, as a vast, eternal glorification and generalism of Stoicism! With all your love for truth, you have forced yourselves so long, so persistently, and with such hypnotic rigidity to see Nature FALSELY, that is to say, Stoically, that you are no longer able to see it otherwise-- and to crown all, some unfathomable superciliousness gives you the Bedlamite hope that BECAUSE you are able to tyrannize over yourselves--Stoicism is self-tyranny--Nature will also allow herself to be tyrannized over: is not the Stoic a PART of Nature? . . . But this is an old and everlasting story: what happened in old times with the Stoics still happens today, as soon as ever a philosophy begins to believe in itself. It always creates the world in its own image; it cannot do otherwise; philosophy is this tyrannical impulse itself, the most spiritual Will to Power, the will to "creation of the world," the will to the causa prima." |

And I think neither of these are going to meet the earths spiritual needs. I dont think there is any species that kills on mass for fear, fun and territory is there?. There could be but there is not. We are taught animals are low life forms I think its on the contrary. |

Again, not an accident. Our little circle of DNA cousins isn't like other animals and beings. We seem to have an inherent... I guess you could call it "evil side", but it's more like a psychotic/sociopath aggression flaw that can be switched on and off at will in humans and just plain fires randomly in chimps. The point is we humans have a conscious choice to turn it on and off. We can do it. All we have to do is listen to that higher morality within us. Listen to our big brains, ignore our little brains. But listening to our instincts would only end in unimaginable "evil". Mark my words. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1691693 United Kingdom 12/10/2012 01:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I quite agree. Below copy and pasted a paragraph. Maybe of interest. There are many reasons for philosophical interest in nonhuman animal (hereafter “animal”) consciousness. First, if philosophy often begins with questions about the place of humans in nature, one way humans have attempted to locate themselves is by comparison and contrast with those things in nature most similar to themselves, i.e., other animals. Second, the problem of determining whether animals are conscious stretches the limits of knowledge and scientific methodology (beyond breaking point, according to some). Third, the question of whether animals are conscious beings or “mere automata”, as Cartesians would have it, is of considerable moral significance given the dependence of modern societies on mass farming and the use of animals for biomedical research. Fourth, while theories of consciousness are frequently developed without special regard to questions about animal consciousness, the plausibility of such theories has sometimes been assessed against the results of their application to animal consciousness |
