Secret Military Space Plane To Launch
The secretive U.S. Air Force X-37B robotic space plane has been cleared to lift off Tuesday.

The X-37B vehicle and its cargo bay packed with a classified payload is set to make the third mission of the program. Also called Orbital Test Vehicle-3, or OTV-3, the unpiloted craft is slated to be hurled into Earth orbit by an Atlas 5 rocket from Florida's Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) at 1:03 p.m. EST.

There's an interesting angle to the upcoming mission. This third flight will use the same X-37B spacecraft that flew the first test flight, the OTV-1 mission, in 2010.

Re: Secret Military Space Plane To Launch
I can't find a live link for the launch, any one else?

It is a lockhead/boeing launch and not a Nasa launch so they might not show it live.

Nothing like a Saturn V when it goes up.

Bowing? love auto corect...fixed

I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw.

We must all realize a sink a chair and a pillow are all luxuries of home and a soldiers helmet takes the place of all three.

Re: Secret Military Space Plane To Launch
US continues it's clandestine militarization of space.

I thought this was illegal, some treaty or other signed a few decades ago.

That said I could be wrong and frankly don't care.

I support it 100% because tbh at this point it doesn't look like we're going to advance in space exploration any other way.

So I say go for it.

WW2 saw incredible advances in aviation tech, nothing and I mean NOTHING gets the ball rolling on technology faster than warfare application, sad but true, so GO USA!

Re: Secret Military Space Plane To Launch
I wonder if they've decided whether or not they will utilize the shuttle landing facility at KSC yet for the X-37B or not. There was some talk they might start landing it at KSC... which means I could conceivably get a picture of the thing on final approach.
"Once its mission its complete, the X-37B will return to Vandenberg Air Force Base or the Kennedy Space Center for a landing. The Shuttle Landing Facility at KSC is not yet an active landing site for the X-37B, but the Air Force is currently assessing the Space Coast Runway for use by the X-37B. These assessments could be done in time for the landing of OTV-3."
