Anonymous Coward User ID: 27972246 United States 12/11/2012 04:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | X-37b just completed its launch and live feed is now cut off. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12786780 Kinda scary timing of these two events. X-37B gonna piggy back on this one for a very long long trip? I don't think this asteroid has enough mass to capture a space craft. I could be wrong though. Its a space craft, the X37B, its not a rock. It has control systems 'flight control' as it were. It could even be maneavur (given enough fuel) to even 'land' on it.. just like the Shuttle used to flying around the ISS.. not saying that is what is going on at all. But what Could Be. Oh, well, must stap on engines on that asteroid and fly it around. Its too small to effectively tunnel out or hollow out much of a space cave dwelling. (just having fun) |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 27972246 United States 12/11/2012 04:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ASTEROID FLYBY: Newly-discovered asteroid 2012 XE54 is flying through the Earth-Moon system today approximately 230 thousand km (0.6 LD) from Earth. The space rock is about 36 meters wide, a little smaller than the Tunguska impactor that leveled 800 square miles of Siberian forest in 1908 Quoting: NiNzrez [link to spaceweather.com] I like this part of this article, many might have missed: "Astronomers monitoring the asteroid might have noticed an unusual eclipse during the early hours of Dec. 11th. According to calculations made by P. Tricarico, 2012 XE54 "will likely cross the Earth's shadow, causing a partial eclipse of the asteroid a few hours before reaching its minimum distance with the Earth. Asteroids eclipsing during an Earth flyby are relatively rare, with the first known case of asteroid 2008 TC3 which was totally eclipsed just one hour before entering Earth's atmosphere over Sudan in 2008, and asteroid 2012 KT42 experiencing both an eclipse and a transit during the same Earth flyby in 2012." |
