Even carrier planes are flown onto the carriers after they leave port for security reasons. Yes, during WW II some aircraft were shipped but those were small planes with limited range. Hell. we even flew planes to Russia. Bombers were routinely flown from the US to the UK. They were not shipped.

Ferry range for an F 16 is 2620 miles. Not even sure how u can mount one on a flatbed railcar with their long wings.
