My kid's school district just called with a recorded message that said the creepiest thing....UPDATE: New msg

It's a creepy week and for sure they don't want a copycat of what (supposedly) happened at Sandy Hook at your school this week.

I support their caution. So far so good, imho. I hope my kids' district is extra careful too.

My little boy's last day is the 21st too. He said "Mom, I know the world is sposed to end next Friday but can we please go Christmas shopping because I want to get a bunch of stuff still." I smiled at him and hugged him so tight and just laughed to myself.

The narrative is very simple and people should see it by now. Like Operation Blackjack (which coincidentally means 21. Did I hear someone say 21st of December?) said, homegrown terrorists and doomsday cultists were to blame for the FF nuke attacks [link to i46.tinypic.com]

Isn't the shooter or mum some form of survivalist? Do you see the connection?

So the only thing I believe missing now is some earth changing phenomenon, natural disaster around this date or perhaps a fear based media hype for that narrative to gain momentum. The media will simply say that the unusual events or hype about this date have driven people to the extremes.

I got a message from my son's school, too. No Mayan calendar stuff, though.

Locked doors don't stop God. You can pray silently in a locked-up school with armed guards all over the place. But it might stop some nutcase going in to harm the people.

We don't need to rethink the extra need for security this week.

Having done that, we are free to pay attention to other things with our minds at ease. Isn't the electoral college meeting tomorrow? Do everything to stop them confirming a fraudulent election result for an unqualified candidate.

Yea my wife is an elementary teacher here in Idaho and her school is wide open, they could change that but with the glass doors it's kind of an exercise in futility......if I was a principle though I would be strapped everyday or at the very least have a firearm at my disposal at all times.

I guess that they are not taking any chances right at this moment.

This will only exacerbate the situation.

Schools tend to over react to things on a massive scale. The philosophy is generally better safe than sorry, better to restrict a freedom than face a lawsuit.

This is what I think, too. I think some crazy person will take advantage of the Dec 21 date. It certainly will NOT be the end of the world.

I got a similar message from our school district here in Ohio, but just about the shooting and extra precautions. My 8 year old wanted to know all the kids names, go through each of their pictures, learn about them...I indulged him and sat here with him and cried reading about each child who lost their lives.

He's been scared to sleep by himself the last two nights, scared to walk to the bathroom by himself, scared to go to school, worried that the same thing can happen at his school or in our home...

My knee jerk reaction is just to pull the kids out of school and never let them leave my sight again, lol, but, that's not very logical. I've been telling all of them to be extra aware of their surroundings, that people may do things this week that they wouldn't do otherwise.

I've instructed my kids to NOT be fish in a barrel at school. If their school ever does experience something like this shooting, to RUN as fast as they can run. Jump out a window, and run to the nearest house with a car in the driveway.

I never thought in a million years I'd have to discuss these things with my kids.

I would feel much better if there were armed guards at every entrance of their buildings...Ugh...Never thought I'd say that either...

Don't let your kids talk to the counselors.

They are pushing the "there are people available to talk" so heavily so they can ask your kids invasive questions about their home life.

They're using this as an opportunity to tell kids they should be scared of Mommy and Daddy if they have a gun in their house. They're using this to try and scope out if any kids have parents that don't keep their guns as securely as they should.

Every single time I've ever been to a counselor's office at school it ended up being a very thorough information collecting exercise. If that doesn't work, they'll start sending invasive assignments home that are meant to help the kids "deal with their grief."

the tendency is to be super over-protective and keep my daughter right by my side all week. but, my gut tells me that i need to keep a sense of normalcy for her as well.

i think i will send her mon, tues and wed and keep her home from thurs on.

I would deduce that there might be a national bulletin to all public institutions that due to the current incident and increased speculation that doomers will be acting very edgy.

What would be the point in robbing or shooting if it was over? You would think people would be with family, friends, or even out in the wilderness enjoying some last moment peace and meditation.

Friday is probably "party day" anyway. Your strategy is sound. Perhaps you can find an age-appropriate way to discuss with her what you are doing and why.

I'm in the hospital, and several people who work here have brought it up in conversation, that they want to be with their family, and they're taking the day off.

These are aides and nurses.

Lots of people are going to take the day off, it's going to be strange.

Great idea! Mine get out on Wednesday for Winter Break. They do need a sense of normalcy...absolutely! Can't just keep them indoors all this week, although I want to...Hopefully, mine have listened to what I've told them about this week...Be aware. Pay attention. Look, listen, observe.

There are lots of sick crazies out there who may feel they have nothing to lose this week and do things they wouldn't normally do...

I can only imagine, we went back in to check the tv and see if we could figure out the epicenter, and then we saw the chaos at the game on tv and it all came together. Our balcony was crappy so it exacerbated the shaking.

Just for grins I am staying home. Why temp faith?
