Complex Emergency in Russia [Asia] on Wednesday, 19 December, 2012 at 11:48 (11:48 AM) UTC.

Description
Abnormally low winter temperatures in Russia continue to claim more and more lives. Twenty-one people froze to death in only one day; 147 others were hospitalized with frostbite. The cold weather in central Russia is not going to get any warmer soon. On December 19, the cold has reached St. Petersburg, where temperatures fell below -20 degrees Centigrade. It is 30 degrees below zero in the Ivanovo region, -22C in the Kaluga region, and -25 in Tver. In Moscow, for example, the cold snap came on December 15 and will last until next Wednesday, forecasters say. At the weekend, night temperatures will drop to 26 degrees below zero Centigrade.

"The idea that alcohol warms people up from within in freezing weather is wrong. Alcohol only can only mislead people and their defenses - it can make people feel that they are warm. Alcohol is harmful in cold weather. One needs normal hearty food and warm clothing to be safe," Russia's Chief Sanitary Doctor Gennady Onishchenko said. Very cold weather has come to almost the entire territory of Russia last week. Daytime temperatures vary from minus 17-20 in Moscow to minus 50 in Siberia. As usual, the Russians were not prepared to sudden cold. In Novosibirsk, people have to live in cold apartments. Twelve apartment buildings on Nikitin Street were left without heating after a heat pipeline burst. Ecology in Siberian cities worsens considerably because of low temperatures. Many drivers do not shut off engines for the night to be able to use their cars in the morning. As a result, everything is shrouded in dense smog.

A state of emergency occurred in Bashkortostan last week. A heat pipe burst in the center of the capital of Ufa. As many as 155 facilities and more than 9,000 people found themselves in the disaster zone. School classes were canceled. It took specialists nearly 24 hours to eliminate the consequences. Another part of Ufa was left without electricity for nearly 8 hours. Five districts were left without electricity and heat in the Altai region of Russia. Nearly 8,500 people were left to the mercy of fate and extremely low temperatures. In Makhachkala, the snowfall, which began on Saturday night and did not stop until Monday, paralyzed the work of public transport.

Power Outage in Russia [Asia] on Wednesday, 19 December, 2012 at 11:53 (11:53 AM) UTC.

Description
In the city of Samara, where temperatures drop to minus 27 degrees for the second week already, 152 homes were left without heat. By lunchtime, temperatures in apartments dropped to +14 degrees Centigrade. The town of Balashov, the Saratov region, with the population of 80,000 was left without water because of the cold snap. Ice from the local river plugged water pipes, forcing divers to fix the problem. People suffer from cold in the city of Saratov, where water pipes began to burst. As many as 61 incidents were registered on the city's water pipe system. In 16 cases, water was flowing directly into the streets, turning roads into skating rinks.

The cold has killed dozens of people, mostly homeless, Ukraine and Russia, in Siberia where temperatures are close to 50 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. Cold wave is affecting the whole of Europe.

In Ukraine, for temperatures between -20 °, amounts to 37 the death toll due to cold since the beginning of the month, according to the Ministry of Health

In Russia six people have died and over 100 were hospitalized with hypothermia problems, reveals a public agency Ria Novosti.

Temperatures are plummeting in Russia since last week. In Moscow, the thermometer marked -19 º yesterday, but in Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Omsk and Barnaul, the main city in Western Siberia temperatures fell late on Monday to -47 °, according to the Institute of Meteorology Russian.

Colder still does in Magadan, Russian Far East, where the minimum temperature dropped overnight to -51 °.

Classes were suspended due to the cold.

There was a similar cold front and power disaster shortly after Putin took office the first time. Must have been about 14 years ago.

At the same time, we are hearing that the normally sub-zero winters of Alaska have been unusually mild during the intervening period.

[link to conspiracyhq.com]

In the free movie at this link, the narrator says that Alaska is much warmer recently, compared to the 1990's, and has footage of the Inuit people discussing changes in the sun and stars as well.

Can't help but wonder if the cold is following the path of the wandering magnetic north pole, although it now appears to be just coincidence. There are factors at play here that are unclear to us.

Russia hit with harshest winter in 70 years: Americans feeling their first wintry blast of the season on Wednesday could take some comfort from this: In Moscow it felt like 10 below – part of a week-long cold spell across Russia that has parts of Siberia feeling like 50 below. Across Russia, the deep freeze killed at least 45 people over the last week, 21 on Tuesday alone, the English-language Moscow Times reported Wednesday. Nearly 270 people were hospitalized, more than half with frostbite. Russia’s emergency ministry urged everyone in Moscow to stay indoors on Wednesday, while forecasters said the cold could get worse over the weekend. Siberia has been hardest hit, with cities like Novosibirsk dipping to minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit on Wednesday. With the wind chill, it felt like minus 47. The temperatures have been abnormally low for Russia at this time of year. Last week, the cold in Siberia nearly killed two circus elephants after their trailer caught fire, the RIA news agency reported. -MSNBC [link to theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com]

A handler quickly devised a plan, buying two cases of vodka from a nearby village and serving it to the elephants -- albeit diluted with warm water. "After that they roared as if they were in the jungle. Apparently they were happy," the unnamed handler was quoted as saying.

Re: UPDATE: HEAVY SNOWFALL BRING CHAOS TO UKRAINE AND RUSSIA!!! more than 200 deaths in one week!!!
December 22, 2012 – MOSCOW – A vicious cold snap across Russia and Eastern Europe has claimed nearly 200 lives, officials figures showed Friday, as forecasters warned it would last until Christmas Eve. In Russia, the cold has killed two people in the past 24 hours, the Ria-Novosti agency reported, citing medical sources, bringing the total number of deaths over the past week to 56. The freeze had also left 371 people in hospital. Thermometers have been stuck below minus 20 degrees Celsius (minus 4 Fahrenheit) in Moscow — and below minus 50 degrees (minus 58 F) in some parts of Siberia — for a week. Russian weather forecasters said temperature in the Khabarovsk region in eastern Russia had dropped to minus 43 Celsius, while Krasnoyarsk in Siberia reported minus 47. This “abnormal” frost would last till Monday because of a persistent anticyclone, they added. In Russia’s European region, meanwhile, the mercury is expected to fall to minus 31 degrees Celsius on Christmas Eve before rising rapidly afterwards. Other European countries hit hard by the extreme temperatures were counting the toll as temperatures gradually started to return to normal. Authorities in Ukraine, which has been battling heavy snowfall for weeks, said 83 people had died of cold, with 57 of the victims found on the street. The homeless are traditionally the hardest-hit by the region’s bitter winters. Another 526 cold victims were reportedly receiving hospital treatment in Ukraine. Overnight temperatures in Ukraine reached an average minus 15 degrees Celsius, which is common at this time of year. Ukrainian authorities said 93 villages — mainly on the Crimean peninsula in the south of the country — were still hit by a power outage. In Eastern Europe, police in Poland said Friday that 49 people had died of exposure this month, with most of the victims homeless, as temperatures plunged to minus 10 degrees Celsius. At least six people have died of exposure in Lithuania in the past weeks, police and emergency services said there. In Latvia, temperatures reached minus 14 Celsius on Friday morning. In the capital Riga, authorities decided to drop public transport fares to encourage drivers to leave their cars at home and prevent crashes and jams. On Christmas Eve temperatures in Latvia are expected to drop to minus 28 Celsius, a record low. In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, temperatures hovered around zero on Friday. Czech police said several people had died of exposure in recent weeks, but no overall statistics were available for the country. –TD [link to theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com]

49 die in Poland: Polish police said Friday 49 people have died from the cold since the beginning of December as temperatures in Poland plunged to minus 10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit). Most of the deaths from the freezing temperatures have been among the homeless, said police who have begun informing them of where they can find hot meals and shelter. Poland’s first cold wave this season in October left 15 people dead and five more died in November. Last winter around 200 people died of hypothermia. –TD [link to theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com]

Russia’s coldest winter since 1938: Russia is enduring its harshest winter in over 70 years, with temperatures plunging as low as -50 degrees Celsius. Dozens of people have already died, and almost 150 have been hospitalized. The country has not witnessed such a long cold spell since 1938, meteorologists said, with temperatures 10 to 15 degrees lower than the seasonal norm all over Russia. The Emergency Ministry has issued warnings in 15 regions, which have been put on high alert over possible disruptions of communication and power. Across the country, heat pipelines have broken down due to the cold. In southeastern Russia’s Samara, the cold has broken down many heat pipelines, leaving hundreds of homes without heating, including an orphanage and a rest house. Many schools and kindergartens have been closed for almost a week. The cold spell, along with snowfalls, has disrupted flights all over the country, and led to huge traffic jams. In the southern city of Rostov-on-Don some highways were closed due to snowfalls over the past two days, triggering a traffic collapse. Over the weekend, meteorologists predict temperatures will plunge even lower in the Moscow region, hitting -25. The Russian capital is also expected to be swept with snow, RIA Novosti reported. –Wunderground [link to theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com]

Description
The coldest ever December has rolled through Russia causing the evacuation of hundreds of people in Siberia, where temperature hit below -50C, and plunging Moscow into its coldest night in the season. The cold weather that has Russia in its icy embrace has been causing all kinds of havoc. Flights and buses delayed and cancelled, many schools have been closed, and there have been power outages just when power is most needed. In the town of Kyshtym, the Urals, 14,000 people are still waiting for the central heating to be restored. On Sunday a break in the central pipe left residents anxiously watching the red line on their home thermometers plunging as temperatures outside slid to -24C (-11F). Just over the Urals, a state of emergency has been declared and over 2,800 people were evacuated from the village of Khovu-Aksy, the Republic of Tyva, temperatures there a lethal -38C (-36F). A helicopter was sent to pick up kids and women. Two days into the emergency, authorities are frantically repairing central heating pipes while most of the evacuees are staying with their relatives.

Description
A bitter cold spell in Russia has claimed 123 lives in the past 10 days, an official said Tuesday. Temperatures have plunged to up to minus 30 degrees Celsius (minus 34 degrees Farenheit) in the Moscow region and up to minus 60 degrees Celsius (minus 51 degrees Farenheit) in Eastern Siberia. "Since the start of the cold, 123 people have died of exposure and frostbite," a medical source was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying. In the past 24 hours, 201 people had to be hospitalised to be treated for hypothermia and frostbite, including 14 children, the source added. Since the start of the cold snap, 1,745 people were affected, and over 800 had to be hospitalised, the source said. State television reports Tuesday focused on a village in Tyva, one of Russia's poorest regions in southern Siberia, where temperatures of minus 40 degrees Celsius were coupled with an accident at the local heat station which left some 3,000 residents stranded in the cold. "There is nothing, not even water, we have to melt snow, and the temperature at home is below zero," one bundled-up resident told Vesti-24 channel. In the Moscow region, Monday became an all-time record for the amount of electricity consumed by residents, Russia's power operator said on Tuesday, blaming unusually cold temperatures. But Russia's weather service is predicting a drastic temperature hike in the European parts of Russia later this week, with 0 degrees Celsius expected in Moscow. The emergency ministry warned however that the warming will be accompanied by strong winds and freezing rain that will likely damage communications and slow down traffic.
