Michigan schools cancel classes due to potential threats and end of world rumors

I'll tell you, OP, if the two extra secuiry guards they're placing in the NY elementary schools are anything like the one we currently have in place, we'd be better off getting that one-armed security guy you ran into. If I was betting on the gum-chewing, barely literate, glazed-eyed, security personnel New York City places in our Public Schools to "protect" my boy (and his sisters before him) I'd be good and well screwed.

I live in a City where our little Napolean mayor's only concern about public schools is how much money he can ring out of them (he's probably three times removed from having a hand in the security company charged with providing the extra personnel). Everyone talks about Bloomy's soda ban, but few know he's got a big hand in the vending machines in our public schools providing the "healthy" drinks. Computers? Forget about it. Can someone say Dolla-Dolla Bill?

Wouldn't be shocked if they bring-in the National Guard (as another OP in different thread pointed-out Boxer floated in DC on Weds) or placed the coppers in the school (good overtime) to "protect our children. What a crock as we all go up the lazy river hoping for the cold tit of the nanny state to sustain us.

In Michigan:

All Genesee County school districts have unanimously decided to cancel school and all in-county activities for Thursday, Dec. 20 and Friday, Dec. 21.

As you may know, there have been numerous rumors circulating in our district, and in neighboring districts, about potential threats of violence against students. Additional rumors connected to the Mayan calendar predictions of the end of the world on Friday have also surfaced. These rumors have been thoroughly investigated and determined to be false.

Have people, parents, American society, all gone insane. Schools in Michigan shutting-down because of CT shooting and Mayan doom? Father's standing guard outside of schools? We truly have become a nation of pampered, cowed, television-possessed twits.

My daughter will be taking the subway to her high school Thursday and Friday. My other daughter will be walking to her Middle School on Thursday. My 10 year old son will be riding the school bus to his elementary school Thursday and Friday. And we live in the freakin' Bronx (which, despite all the stupid sensationalized tripe that's put-put about it, is a fine place to live).

Good God! When I think of how far removed we've become from the people who went through the Depression in this country (and survived begging for daily shape work, the dust bowl, bread lines), or rationing and war during World II only 70-80 years ago it's astounding. How did the people of this country become such self-obessed, small-minded, whiny, little piss-ant cowards.

Such a shame. Talk about painting a bullseye on our quivering, self-centered, concave chests. Truly tragic.

I think if my kids were in school, I'd be doing the same.

I home-schooled them, and as far as I remember neither of them have set a foot inside a school building at all.

Seriously, I think ALL schools should close over the 21st. Its a scary time, in itself with the whole TEOFTWAWKI....and also coupled with the recent tragedy.....the freaks will be out in force.

This has become sheer insanity.

I'm not a parent but if I were my kids would be tightly by my side the next couple of days.
