The alone make the 1990s the worst time for music and many other things, look at the statistics via Google if you will. Last Edited by SpaceCommand on 12/22/2012 01:35 PM "With an eye made quiet by the power of harmony and the deep power of joy, we see into the life of things." William Wordsworth And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God. John F. Kennedy Inaugural Address Lincoln's economic advisor Henry C. Carey explained the universal issue in his 1851 Harmony of Interests: "Two systems are before the world.... One looks to pauperism, ignorance, depopulation, and barbarism; the other to increasing wealth, comfort, intelligence, combination of action, and civilization. One looks towards universal war; the other towards universal peace. One is the English system; the other ... the American system, for ... elevating while equalizing the condition of man throughout the world." "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein |

I miss the real people who used to live in my neighborhood, now it's all a bunch of Suburban-driving 40-45 yr olds with 2 kids and a 300k house looking down their noses at those of us who are trying to figure out how the fuck people dumber than us managed us to do so much better financially. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17431247 They didn't they have the equity of the letter box, and do not even own the back tyre on her look at me 4wd. You may be right. I spoke to one of these couples once and the husband told me they had lost all the equity in their house, and it's a 300k house. That would suck. I could never be jealous of people in debt. I may not have the Toyota 4-runner but I *could* have one if I wanted, I just prefer to own my 7k car clear and free. |

It seemed at the the time we were poised for a modern renaissance. It looked like there was such promise for the future. Now we're at "the future" and it sucks and the future from now we already know will be even worse. It's ironic that Obama ran with "hope" as a slogan. Because now we don't even have that. |

Good remembrances from all those years though. I try to live "in the now", and now is really not all that bad. Eat healthy, exercise and avoid toxic chemicals (eat organic foods), avoid microwave radition from cell phones and other "wi-fi" devices... these all contribute to feeling bad, growing obesity problems and lack of creativity (which is a current problem in today's society). |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29710001 I do not believe that technology is the cause but I couldn't agree more that things were better in the 90s. The baby boomers are reaping what their careless debt based consumerism sowed. World wide we are running out of cheap oil, cheap water, cheap rare Earth metals etc. Additionally we have a very poor administrator running the U.S. and another in Canada, and another in Germany. I don't know about other places. Paralyzed economies, leaders and poorly educated citizens make for an unpleasant present. Sad as it is perhaps the 90s feel like the good old days now. Manage your own affairs that is enough for one life. May your path be free of tyranny. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 30662136 United States 12/22/2012 05:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Remember when................ Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23554071 Close your eyes.....And go back in time.... Before the Internet or the MAC, Before semi-automatics. Before SEGA or Super Nintendo... Way back..... Hide and seek at dusk. The Good Humor man, Red light, green light. The corner store. Hopscotch, butterscotch, double Dutch, jacks, kickball, dodge ball. Mother May I? Red Rover and Roly Poly. Hula Hoops. Running through the sprinkler. The smell of the sun and licking salty lips. Wax lips and mustaches. An ice cream cone on a warm summer night, Chocolate or vanilla or strawberry or maybe butter pecan. A cherry coke from the fountain at the corner drug store. Remember when... Watching Saturday Morning cartoons... short commercials Davy Crockett, Hopalong Cassidy, Junior Frolics, The Three Stooges, and Bugs, or staying up for Gunsmoke Or back further, Listening to Superman or The Lone Ranger on the radio. When around the corner seemed far away, and going downtown seemed like going somewhere. A million mosquito bites. Sticky fingers. Cops and Robbers, Cowboys and Indians, Zorro. Climbing trees, Building igloos out of snow banks. Walking to school, no matter what the weather. Running till you were out of breath . Laughing so hard that your stomach hurt. Jumping on the bed. Pillow fights. Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles. Being tired from playing.... Remember that? The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team. War was a card game. Water balloons were the ultimate weapon. Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle. Eating Kool-aid powder. Remember when... There were two types of sneakers for girls and boys (Keds & PF Flyers)and the only time you wore them at school, was for "gym." It wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends. When nobody owned a purebred dog. When a quarter was a decent allowance, and another quarter a miracle. When milk went up one cent and everyone talked about it for weeks? When you'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny. When you got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, without asking, for free, every time. And, you didn't pay for air. And, you got trading stamps to boot! Remember when.. When laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box. When nearly everyone's mom was at home when the kids got there. When it took five minutes for the TV to warm up, if you even had one. When your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces. It was magic when dad would "remove" his thumb. When it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents. When girls neither dated nor kissed until late high school, if then. When all of your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their hair done. When they threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed ..and did! When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited a misbehaving student at home. Basically, we were in fear for our lives but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! and some of us are still afraid of them!!! Didn't that feel good.. just to go back and say, Yeah, I remember that! Decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-mo." Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "do over!" "Race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest. Remember when... Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in "Monopoly." The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties. It was unbelievable that dodgeball wasn't an Olympic event. Having a weapon in school, meant being caught with a slingshot. Nobody was prettier than Mom. Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better. Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable aspirin. Ice cream was considered a basic food group. Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true. Abilities were discovered because of a "double-dare." Older siblings were the worst tormentors, but also the fiercest protectors. If you can remember most or all of these, then you have LIVED!!!! Pass this on to anyone who may need to remember when... I DOUBLE DARE YA!!! Thank you. I needed that. Those simple times were the best. Not to mention the REAL MUSIC that went along with that. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. My soul and spirit needed the reminder. Wish I could go back for awhile. I loved those times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
