Iowa court rules boss can fire employee he considers an ‘irresistible attraction’

I see the legal point. Everything else about it strikes me as so unfair, to everyone involved, no matter how the ruling came down that it's difficult to think of an option with a superior outcome.

It was the employers problem, not the employees, and did hint at sexual harassment, since it threatened and in fact removed the ladies employment, during a depression none the less, because the boss had inappropriate feelings.

He couldn't quit though, given the nature of the work, so what else could have been done. (Provided he found himself unable to control his feelings.)

It sucks all the way around, but I have to agree that it seems like the only thing that might work.

I'm just glad the ideals of "victim" were removed. Probably firs time in legal history the idea of victim thrown out the window.

If I was married, and my husband was sexually attractive to his assistant, I would demand that she be fired as well.

She should be given an good reference and shown the door. No-on is owed a job.

while i agree that any business owner should fire anyone they see unfit or a deterrent that would cause a company to act differently than normal; it's stupid if you stop to think about it.
Basically this is the Muslim approach to a situation. You're turning your inability of self control into a legal issue of female attractiveness.

It's not her business and it's not a right to have a job at that business. How the hell could you even take something like that to court!?

If you get fired deal with it and go find another job. If you can not find another job then maybe you should figure out why you have little to no choices in the job market.

I'm sure that happens quite often. We call it FBH. (Firing before hiring or "he got fibbed.") In my line of work we'ved fired a few gays for workplace something or another. Basically, soon as a gay let's everyone else know they are gay...they get fired.

Sounds like a good summary of the situation to me. It sure as hell is sexual discrimination. If the employee had been a man would the dentist have fired him. No. She was fired because she was a woman when a man with the same traits would have been retained. I would say the same thing if the dentist were gay and had fired a man for the same reason.

I bet the boss was absolutely disgusting as well. When the woman found out he was perving over her all day and night she probably puked in her mouth.

The moment you start talking to an outsider about your relationship, you estrange yourself from your loved one. If you have a problem with your husband/wife, just talk to them about it 1 on 1. Have a time every 1 or two weeks where you can say anything without prejudice.

Don't go firing someone because you text them and make your wife jealous.

If a woman worker is very sexy looking for a business that has men working around her, she should definitely be fired. It affects the output of the business and also safety of the working environment. All the guys would walk around with a hard-on and can't think of anything else but sex all the time.

If she can get fired for her appearance...she should get disability for too good looking....

Blue sage is just trolling, I don't even know why this got stickied. Maybe there was a hot girl doing a good job stickying posts and someone fancied her so she got fired. This nut stepped in to take over.

That's why women should not be allowed to work in the armed forces. Guys would all die trying to save her ass in the front lines, getting themselves all killed trying to rescue her whenever she falls down while running.

Actually, he asked her to wear less revealing clothes and apparently she did not, at least not to the required extent?

I don't see why women (and men) cannot be required to wear non-revealing, even non-flattering clothes as a condition of employment. It's a bit Sharia-ish, but that's the reason that provision is in Sharia law. I am not going that far, I do not require women to wear hijab, but the workplace is not the same as the general public. She can wear revealing clothes, just not at his workplace. She continued to wear revealing clothes, she got fired. Fine.

Who ever said we should trust the justice system to take care of us? This is more evidence it needs to be dismantled by the people of America.

The Dentist was sexually attracted to her and he crossed the line by his statements. So to cut his liability, he fired her for being too sexually attractive to him. Interesting.
