I got hem presents. But I got diddly. Worst. Christmas. Ever. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21000351 Aww, sorry dude. I picked up a 12-pack of Becks for myself. Do you live in Madison? Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 21000351 United States 12/24/2012 11:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Do you want a gift? I am willing to give you one, a stranger and fellow GLPer to another. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18535219 That is very nice of you, but I kinda wanted something from my family since i do so much for them throughout the year. And especially from my sons. One owns a fairly successful Apple Ipod repair store and the other is pulling in 6 figures as a sales manager for a car company. I figure since I struggled so hard to get them raised and to make them successes instead of drunks or lazy slackers they would at least appreciate it enough to get me something. If even a cheap card. I am unemployed and struggling bad right now and I spent $50 each on them. I am very hurt over this. I was their only parent. I gave up my 20's and 30's to be a full time dad. I gave the best years of my life in a celibate attempt to create strong, successful, well adjusted, decent men. It is not like I wanted a new car or tv. A stick of gum would have been enough, and I can't chew gum because of my dentures. |

Same thing with my own immediate family, kids are pissed because I didn't spend $487 USD on an XBox. All I get from them are attitude and entitlement. I hate what Christmas has morphed into, someone with their hand extended to get free shit from me! Let's get that new year here already and be done with it. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 18535219 United States 12/24/2012 11:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well OP, I'm sorry to hear that your sons aren't giving gifts to you. You have sacrificed a lot for them, and deserve a lot in return...I believe, that good karma will return to you in another way. And in addition to that, since I can't give you a gift, I wish you the best of blessings. |

Eggcellent Re-Instate Smith-Mundt! User ID: 30199236 United States 12/24/2012 11:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, it's sad when the people you love the most don't seem to be remembering you at this time and Season. But you know, someday they will look back and wish they had. Keep in mind that when you are young, you think that you'll have forever to tell others how much they mean to you. It is only as you grow older that you come to appreciate the short and growing shorter window of Time that we actually have. I, too, am (physically) alone this Christmas. I have gifts which I have bought and wrapped for friends and their children sitting here waiting for them and they aren't even coming over to get them until "Christmas" is over. A few years ago I would have said "F - Them", but as I get older I realize that giving and getting gifts is NOT what Christmas is all about. Rather it is about the Gifts of LOVE and compassion which were shown to us by our Creator, that he sent his Son who could have come with legions of angels but came instead to be born in a humble stable, and to grow up and go through all of the stuff we experience growing up, and to spend His adult years reminding us about His Father and the simple things we can do to show our appreciation for that magnificent Gift. And yes, He died to allow Mercy to be shown to us along with Justice, and that is very important too, but the message He left us is just as important. I am in no way a "Bibletard". I look at my little tree, which is trimmed with ornaments gathered over the years, and each one reminds me of stories, situations and people no longer here. I light the candles which illuminate the pictures of family and friends who have Gone Home, and realize that I will soon be joining them. Regardless of the rudeness or thoughtlessness of the people I still know, I feel like I am surrounded by love. And that is the greatest gift of all. Merry Christmas to you, friend. "I have come to the conclusion that all news should be treated like 9/11, assume it is a psyop with actors participating in a staged event complete with props, until proven otherwise, in which case assume whatever is being recorded, reported, televised, is distortions/lying by omission/outright lies, until proven otherwise." - Anonymous, 4-13-12 |

Do they resent you? Did you not teach them the value of giving? Did you raise them atheist so they do not feel compelled to celebrate a holiday they do not believe in? They are the product of the upbringing you gave them, after all. My advice to you? Have some honest talks with them, or you will get nothing next year too. :malefav: I love this place!! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27666882 United States 12/25/2012 12:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How old are you? When you grow up you realize that the real joy of present giving at Christmas is the giving and not the receiving. The look of joy on your loved ones face when they see that they have gotten something they like. That's the best part. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20890048 While that is true, I don't believe it was about the presents. I think the OP is hurt because none of his loved ones thought about him. I think it's sad, because it really doesn't take that much of an effort to let your loved ones know you care about them and that they're special to you. |
Jims Space Agency User ID: 1402657 New Zealand 12/25/2012 12:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got nothing. Most everyone I know is flat broke. I'd just like a scrap of Land on Planet Earth, so that I can grow vegetables. But a tiny bit of Bare Land here in New Zealand and Australia is about $200,000 these days. However, one gift I did get, I gave to myself, and that is... THE BEST UFO EXTRATERRESTRIAL RESEARCH IN THE WORLD.
