Different areas have their own colloquialisms and someone not from that area might very well be clueless.

Just a wild guess, but it could be an Appalachian term. That area more than most, has retained words and terms from their British heritage over the centuries. Maybe Scottish?

We live in Oklahoma. I'm from the nj/NY area and she was born in Michigan and grew up there mainly, and lived some time in texas. She's kinda trashy-american.

A bain-marie is a pot used as a double boiler. (For melting chocolate.) Could it have been that?

I'm in Michigan and no KFC or chicken place I've been to ever called a bucket a "bain". Never heard it referred to as that. So I think your boss be ujolip. (That means crazy, but I just made it up, apparently you can do that, don't believe me? ask your boss.)

In the deep south we sometimes call a bucket a "bail" but that is generally when you are in a boat which is taking on water. As in "giv mah the dahm bail, Bill-Bob, tha gators is gettin even wit us"

Lol! Well, she's an ex crack head, actually. Lol I have no idea. Cost, even before that, she referenced actual buckets, as in a bane up on the shelf, above the ice buckets. So.... makes her case even worse. She's never referred to those particular buckets, to me, before, as anything or in any convoy, so no idea if that's the 1st time she's called em that or what or she was honestly going insane. I wasn't hearing her wrong cost no one else had a clue wtf she was talking about either and a coworker said it sounded more like she called it 'baings' , at first I thought she was saying ''bands'' in so e weird way. There these big clear buckets, like, what restaurants would get their pickles in, or certain sauces. Big plastic thick buckets like a cylinder shape cat litter bucket. But these were clear, basic use bucket things for heavy duty. She was wanting me to use it to fill with water and put the new dining room flower bouquets in and mix with that flora life formula shit so they wouldn't go bad so they'd be OK overnight to setup this morning. It basically took her two mins to even explain that.

Very vague, but might be what she was referring to? Doesn't fit her, though. Plus, she kept saying buckets, as in the bane, on the shelf above the ice buckets. Lol

I just looked it up, and my guess is it's a style of bucket, "Bain Marie". Wiki says that is a type of double boiler, but google brought up a few other things, like here:

Maybe she saw the word "Bain" in reference to a bucket one day, and decided she would sound intelligent if she just called all similar buckets "bains." Man, I bet she felt super-smart when she was the only one that knew what the hell she was talking about! Good for her.
