Because there's supposed to be no expression of religions in public/state schools. Students at certain schools can get suspended for simply having a Bible in their possession.

Its like i said before..Muslim is not a religion anymore it is a way of life..therefore it should not be protected in this country as a religion.

my cousin works in the government for the department of eduction.

she helps to plan whet will be taught /done in school across the country.

she is religious by the way. but not Muslim


teaching about religion is not the worst thing in the world.

i think religion, philosophy should be taught but parents should be able to sign a form to opt out of it, have their kid do something different at the time

When I was in school they did a big thing about MLK day. My dad called the principal and said if they don't put equal effort towards Presidents' Day he was going to sue the school System.

Wise parents will teach their children at home, all they really need is a piece of paper to say they are clever, it does not go with them to the next world as our education is....? School is most definitely part of the control system, but teaching about Islam is not proof of that. You guys are getting caught up in the details and not looking at the big picture. The way in which it truly brainwashes our kids is the structure itself. The constant monotonous book work, the strict rules and schedules and deadlines is what we should really be looking at. What is valued by school administrators above all is compliance in the students. Sure they want kids who can read, write and crunch numbers, but instilling obedience of authority within them is the ultimate goal.

Don't go around blaming the teachers for what gets taught or the way schools are run. Often they have very little say in those matters. Many people in my family are teachers and they are all very good people who truly care about children. Many of them are fed up with the current school system, but they aren't about to quit their jobs over it. They've got to keep making money for their families.

As I understand it, and I'm not from the US so excuse me if I get it wrong, the "separation of church and state" means that it is illegal to PRACTICE religion in school, not to learn about different religions. So where's the problem?

Evolution is taught in schools (starting in elementary) or a reason. Don't Freemasons own them? Then, they have complete say in what is taught or what is considered "truth" or "knowledge". Marinade on that for a bit.

That will be an eyeopener. We American's haven't always been so damn politically correct.

i like this approach. after all, isn't it about each individual being able to think for themselves, observe their surroundings and figure out what is going on. of course, how the muslim religion is portrayed in the schools will be one sided and not a full account of it's history and practice.
then it comes back to communities and neighborhoods needing to begin again the practice of discussing the important issues of the day. what the schools are teaching and how is so very relevant.

This is an interesting example as well. First of all Darwin's "Theory" is and always was, a "theory" yet the system seems to have adopted it as FACT! When I read it, which was a long time ago, I recall it being mostly about survival of the fittest and natural selection and NOT about man decending from apes,. I have no cluse as to how it devolved into what it seems to be today.

Most people seem to forget that the education system is the first ranks of the government that we Americans encounter. In NJ they are the largest form of taxation we have and I have always wondered why the violence seems to be concentrated in the schools. Perhaps the children see something that we adults cannot.

Totally. It's going to be a dangerous world when the vast number of US homeschoolers reach adulthood (mine are elementary age) and think for themselves, have not learned revisionist history and have been brought up on classic literature and the writings of economic scholars.

We are Christians, and our homeschool is Christ-centered, but we are not fundamentalists who think religion should be forced on others via the state. We believe folks come to Christ freely as he calls. We just go and tell, the rest is left to God, we cannot do His job for him, unlike some "religions" followers do in "his" name by killing infidels, but that's a different kettle of fish.

We're going to be in for it!

relax!.. they teach religion to broaden horizons as to what you may want (as a kid) to look at an' stuff... until they get a die-hard teaching it, most teachers go for DOT time and a coffee, and have no idea what they teach, further don't care less...

Thank you! That is the trouble with our whole existance, we just accept everything and go along with it if we like or not. I'de say it is time for a change!

My son is 22 years old, they taught the muslim culture, ie: religion in a semester when he was in middle school, around age 11. I asked the teacher about it, I was disturbed because 9/ll was recent. She assured us that it was just an innocent class, showed us the book etc.

At the time I was pissed but didn't do anything about it.

In highschool, they teach a form of yoga and include a lot of the spiritual incantations and ideology in the DRAMA class no less.

My son, being raised in church, kinda thought it was all hilarious, as did the other kids (most NOT raised in churches), and just thought the teacher was nuts.

This is in Pinckney Schools, Michigan.

Perhaps my kid would show up with some videos to share about the beheadings, we wouldn't want half truths about a subject to be taught.

On second thought get your kids out of public school where the curriculum is being directed by the unions.
