Average? A little more than 30,000. I make 38,000. Not that much. But with all of our real money making jobs sent overseas where do we work? I mean, where does the Government expect everyone to work? They sent nearly every decent job overseas years ago, so now it is either McDonald's or some shit like that. I have seen people applying for Minimum wage jobs that have Masters Degrees.

This is a great topic and a sore point after listening to Rush, Sean and Mitt complain over and over about half the people that pay NO income tax! That's right dumbfucks, even the US government feels sorry for you when you make this little so they don't make you pay income tax!

I used to make 82k but got cut to 41k on the next job after getting sacked. No big deal, we adapt. But at that rate, even using the standard deduction with 2 young children, taxable income is in the 20k range and a deduction or so more that you may be eligible put us at the ZERO tax rate! Not because we CHEAT like the rich boys, but because we make so little that we DO NOT QUALIFY for taxation!

It's INCOME tax Rush, Sean, Mitt. If you make shit for income, you pay shit for tax! Oh that's right, your accountants do your taxes, YOU wouldn't know. Get real.

I feel like I have a good job, in the 70% but you know what? I struggle, only debt is my mortgage. I have not been a consumer for 10 years, I shop at Thrift Stores, no tax.{even they have quadrupled their prices in the last 3 years} I worry about the incomes below me and I feel fortunate and fucked!!!!!!

My income has gone down every single year since 2006. I got my W-2 this week and so stunned I thought it was a mistake. I actually asked my employer to recheck it. In 2012 I made almost half what I made in 2005.

Same company different possitions. First they cut the marketing department. Then they merged and reorganized the labels. I left mid 2006 for about 3 months because I thought I would be next. Came back to a different possition that was safer but a lot less money. 2008 they cut the sales department I had been in. It would have been me if I had stayed. 2011 they cut the sales department again. From 20 reps in 2005 the company I use to work for is down to 6.

Now I work for one of the distributed labels at the company I use to work for, so I'm still at the same building in the same profession, but my employer is one of the distributed labels.

Thank God the car and house are paid off. I don't make enough now for the bills I use to have.

That stat is a definite eye opener.

At least 25% of everyone's pay is taken out in taxes.
Half of the U.S. is earning under 30 thousand a year.
Chinese buyers are recovering the U.S. housing market.
And people still ask me what caused the Civil War.

The figures are based on W-2 reporting.

It's probably pretty accurate for lower income and even middle income people. (It doesn't include money from drug dealing, which can be pretty hefty.)

It doesn't include 1099's. There are probably a lot of people who pull in significant dough on their 1099's. Maybe not such a big percentage though.

It also likely inc ludes shitloads of restaurant servers who earn minimum wage but really make most of thier cash from tips. Most of th hese people never report even close to the real amount of tips they earn.

People at the lower income levels are paying more taxes now. It is not income tax, it is the others taxes on the salaries.
This has to do with social security, other little things, that help pay for that healthcare monstrosity Pelosi pushed through, yes I give her big part in that mess.

So what? Most restaurant servers are poor anyway. I don't see that as being a huge skewing factor in this piss-poor data set anyway. (It's probably more than offset by undocumented workers who earn super-low wages as well.)

Why do so many people keep focusing on taxes, when the far more significant issue is globalization and the outsourcing of U.S. jobs and importing of foreign workers who are driving down U.S. wages to poverty level?

You "tax complainers" really need to wake the hell up!

I can guarantee you this: Regardless of what the hell your tax rate is, if somebody doesn't reverse this globalization trend, then the vast majority of Americans are going to end up dirt poor anyway.
