Why don't iPads need firewalls or antivirus?
Apple iPads don't have any firewall or anti virus apps
I wonder why they are more secure than a PC.?

no macs do. longs story short, there is no point to code a virus for any apple product. not only is it painstaking, it's useless

The First Apple IPad "Virus"

The first Apple iPad virus was reported in April 2010. It was reported to erase files and damage data. The virus was not designed to attack the iPad, but the iPhone. The iPad and iPhone use the same operating system; this allows developers to create applications for both devices but also potentially allows criminals to develop malware that can affect both systems.

If I'm not mistaken, the iOS only runs signed code. Most of the virus' and malware out there are written by young people trying to see what they can do... You would have to have an app in the Itunes store to get it to load on the apple product.

used to be written by young people..... highly organised fraudsters are doing it now!!

the reason Mac's dont have antivirus protection was because it was not a viable target,(not enough users of the tech).

now that everyone and their granny has some sort of apple device Hackers are specifically going to target Apple products coz there are millions and millions of them and the security is shit!!

2013 +interesting year for Apple!!

Apples operating system IS more secure.
It is unix operating system with apple
desktop.
Think OpenBSD and FreeBSD and NetBSD
with apples talented designers layering
the graphical desktop.

Apple or linux is not more secure, it's just much much much less commonly used than the windows so less people bother making viruses and trojoans for them, since their target audience is usually on windows. It's just market forces at work. It's easier to do windows hacks so that's what they do.

if you were a criminal, what would you rather crack into, a google.com webserver, or somebody's windows machine?

you could harm much more Com with a Virus targeting Windows Os. than a Apple.

Yes it is the commercial world that makes antivirus
And the commercial would that makes Microsoft open to them
For profit
Apple are very choosy who they do business with, they don't like making markets for criminals.

their are a lot of viruses in the wild for ipad, iphone but because every mac user thinks they are special no virus scanners have been made

i mean think about it, if you were a hacker what target would you go for,

ie code viruses for pc's that have had nearly 30 years exposure to virus & trojan outbreaks

or

code viruses for mac's cos the users think they are untouchable and dont use virus scanners,

mmmmmmmmmmm i know which one i would go for

and i have to add a quote from one of my old friends when i mention viruses for macs etc.

he said "well when a virus pops up ill deal with it" wtf?? i asked what anti virus software has he been using and he said "none"
so i said "well if you've got nothing to detect the virus how you gonna detect it? its not like some russian hacker is gonna make you aware of how much he's been zapping your credit cards" he just did a nervous giggle and didnt really take on my advice

Actually the iPad and iPhone has a firewall, you just don't see it and it is configured to only allow incoming traffic that you have initiated from the iPad. The exception is some services such as mail and notifications that have open ports for incoming.

OS X is the same, but there you can actively configure the firewall if you want to. The software is the same though.

That is totally BS.

OS X and iOS is inherently more secure than Windows because it is built ground up for security. iOS is heavily sandboxed and all apps are screened for security before they go in the app store. The result is an environment with close to zero malware.

The only known malware on OS X is based on Adobe products such as Flash, which is why everyone should uninstall it. There are also some trojans that requires the user to actively install them. MacKeeper is one of them, and should be avoided like the plague.

The UNIX (BSD) subsystem on OS X and iOS is fully certified on line with Sun and IBM UNIX-es, and is as secure as Linux if not better.

Re: Why don't iPads need firewalls or antivirus?
Haha the bad information here is astounding.

Let me explain to you the reason why you think your Apple product is secure.

Malware has a two purposes.

1. Generate income

2. Provide unattended access to the attacker for collection of information and or monitoring of activities.

Viruses intended to generate income no longer need to be hid among legitimate software because the mass populous will voluntarily download such trash. Ads on "free apps" draw in thousands for a app that probably took less then a week to develop.

Now onto the second purpose. The second purpose is to provide unattended access to the attacker. This is used to steal identitys or perhaps use the system as a zombie node to start up a DDOS service. If the aim of the attacker is to control the device infected, then it would be counter productive for the attacker to give the user any warning of the potential infection, such as ads, increased memory or CPU usage. This has led developers of malware to realize their methods are counter productive.

The ensuing effect is that you believe that your Apple product is secure. We see this same effect in Windows 7,8. They are seemingly more secure because we do not notice the effects of an infection. Well in case you were wondering your Apple product is just as infected as any other current windows product. Your just not aware of it.

If you believe any device is secure your fooling yourself. Software cannot be produced flawlessly without security risks. Additional "security software" only leads to more options for a potential exploit to be found. I mean come on, Heartbleed was active for seven years before the exploit was noticed.

Just think about how ridiculous the security in Windows is.

1. Microsoft is the ONLY developer of Windows. They have the FULL source code and only they control it. So they should know all the security holes and issues - in fact they made all of them by how the system is designed and programmed.

2. To secure Windows, Microsoft has developed their on malware scanner that they give away for free.

So to secure the product (1) they fully have developed, they need another application to plug the security holes they made in 1.

WUT???!

Why the f*ck do they not plug all the security holes in 1 when they know how to plug them via product 2?

Sometimes when you open a Word or Excel document with Word or Excel on Windows you are told that the document can harm your computer?!!

So, they have managed to create a document format for their own applications that can compromise the operating system they also made (Windows).
