Anonymous Coward User ID: 60396 United States 02/14/2013 02:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Personally, I think if troops/cops are around, I'd wear jeans or shorts and blend in as a poor schmuck. Quoting: Jg 33702840 Plus I don't want to attract attention from neighbors/strangers that would make them assume I have any preps. Only if I hooked up with others/friends would I do that. Everybody wears camo where I live.i even have a camo suit for cold canvassing in the hollows.people love it.I've gotten more sales off of that suit.Even the tie is realtree camo. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 34318818 Hong Kong 02/14/2013 02:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you want to look like a tree in the woods, you wear RealTree or MossyOak. If you want to look like a clueless civilian in the Burbs, you dress like one with earth and neutral toned civvie clothes. If you want to look like a FEMA employee, you dress like one (careful). If you want to look like undergrowth, you wear a Ghillie suit. Wearing camo while driving through a Marshall law checkpoint would be a no-no, unless you "are military personnel." And wearing bright civvie clothes while trying to hide in the woods from a gang of bikers chasing you would also be a no-no. Every element has the proper kind of "camo", so it's important to have options. There are some camo stereotypes I think many people will recognize or assume: 1. Black or dark blue full set BDU's with black gear is usually interpreted as "POLICE". 2. ACU's, Multicam, Digicam Tigerstripe, and other digicam styles are often interpreted as "Military". 3. Woodland (or old-style desert) full set BDU's are often interpreted as "Militia". 4. RealTree and MossyOak, etc. camo are often interpreted as "Hunters". So if you wear these camo types, just be aware of the image you are presenting to anyone who sees you. Solid subdued colors, such as solid olive drab (as long as it's not BDU's), dark grey, dark brown, coyote brown, forest green, etc. seem to be viewed as rather neutral and probably lack any stereotypes in the USA today, and are good for woodland environments. Solid khaki, ivory and coyote brown also seem to be decent desert colors that don't often draw undue attention. And a big oversized dark jacket or wind breaker can conceal a lot of gear underneath, as long as the observer is not close enough to see you printing with all your concealed gear on. So who cares if they think you are fat, lol. Of course the best advice is to not be anywhere close to where camo is needed in a SHTF scenario. If you are safely out of the crisis zone by several thousand kilometers, you don't need to worry so much about camo and bug-outs, etc. The world's a rather big place, so there's really no need to sit around and wait to be "Whack-a-moled" if you don't want to become a martyr. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 3737813 United States 02/14/2013 03:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live far enough towards the middle of nowhere that it's going to be more a matter of comfort... Most of the clothing I've purchased along the way have been from Gander Mountain/Mountain Hardware/Smartwool and are fairly neutral colors...greens and brown/khakis. I also believe in comforts tho-I have an old fitted cashmere sweater. It'll be among the first to go if need be, but until that happens...I'm gonna be nice and warm fuzzy. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 22301087 United States 02/14/2013 04:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Urban camo is to dress like a hobo. Make it look like you have nothing and people will not try and take anything. Make it look like you have kids if you are not a parent and they what ever oppressive force will less likely just hose the place down before entering. It is all about misdirection. Try reading the Art of War. Quoting: Snickrot Agreed. However, there is a difference between not being seen and not being recognized as a threat. I suggest that you consider the fact that some invading forces will not hesitate to commit genocide. Hello Kitty will not help you there. |

If I was once willing to be destroyed in it for another country, why not actually be willing to wear it for its only honest task? |
