Once again the middle class gets crapped on. Obviously the rich owners arent going to pick this bill up, they will cut hours, hire less people, and raise prices on goods and services. I can't blame most of them its their business they want paid. The easiest way to cut cost is cutting labor, its a simple idea and requires little effort on the part of owners. Unfortunetly workers will be expected to do double and triple the amount they should be doing and probably not see a penny raise for their efforts. Who will pick up the tab on this increase? Simple the middle class once again. We will be forced to buy goods at a higher price and that will take money out of our pockets that we cant afford to lose. I work my butt off and I'm an getting nowhere. The rebublicans are for the rich, the democrats are for the poor (and rich also), but nobody is for the middle class. The day the middle class dies is the day america dies, and I fear that day is fast approaching.

You've never owned a business or managed one. I can tell because you think higher wages mean employers will cut hours. What you need to consider is that the business needs the number of labor hours it needs. If the price of labor goes up costs will be cut elsewhere but not from labor hours.

Think. Joe owns an oil change franchise. He does good busess. He's got lines three cars deep at every grease pit ot. He pays his monkeys minimum. Minimum goes up. If he thinks he's got to fire one man his customers are five deep, honking and swearing and driving to the competition.

The competitor who didn't cut his employees hours can't buy a new espresso machine this quarter but he doesn't go under either unless he's been running on no profit at all and has no savings either. That's either a very new business or a bad businessman.

There are more customers too because poor single working moms who hate to break their nails can afford to buy an oil change since their wages are higher.

I do manage one, although I don't own it. I know what goes on in the closed door meetings and cutting labor is far to often the answer. I seen what happened with obamacare. Its was easy to avoid just cut employees to less that 25 hours and ask more from them. The same will happen when the minimum wage goes up. Part time employees will be even more part time and full timers will be asked to pick up the slack. That is how it works, well unless you work for an oil company then money is no object. Money dont grow in trees, but it is buried under ground as they say.

Also remember the last thing businesses want to do is raise prices above competitors. Think of your oil change example. Company A raises prices and keep all employees hours the same, while company B keeps prices low and cuts hours all the while pushing the employees to change the oil faster and faster. Yes it may be faster at company A, but company B is cheaper and we find in the world of consumers the cheaper one will always win out. Prices will rise over time its inevitable, and the natural flow of goods. However business always attempt to have lower prices than competitors and that limits how they make that money back. You can always push employees harder and faster, and keep prices down and customers flowing.
