This thing was a huge boulder moving at nearly 40,000 mph (that's about 20 miles per second covered, 40 km a second). Lots of energy is released when it hits the atmosphere.

The instant heat buildup in a chuck of iron/rock would
end with an explosion with an accompaning shockwave capable of blowing down brick walls. Sonic boom my ass...$0.02

It only takes 0.25psi over pressure to smash glass in windows.

That's interesting. An intercepting missile would likely just chip off pieces of the meteor, small asteroid as the energy/mass it encounters is much greater.

Impressive if it was able to even intercept something moving that fast though.

According to unconfirmed reports, the meteorite was intercepted by an air defense unit at the Urzhumka settlement near Chelyabinsk. A missile salvo blew the meteorite to pieces at an altitude of 20 kilometers, local newspaper Znak reports quoting a source in the military.

Cause it WAS a BIG BADDA BOOM!!!!!

Does that mean the bigger the object, the more BOOM it makes??

you must have never seen "the Fifth Element"

Also notice how there is not a single video that shows BOTH the fireball and the explosions.

Those were two separate events.

It was not the sonic boom that created the explosion but the detonation charge they used to destroy the meteorite.

Clearly not an asteroid, the Chelyabinsk meteor came from the direction of the Sun, where Planet X, aka Nibiru, is wafting its vast debris ridden tail. This meteor event is not the first nor will it be the last during this passage. Fireballs have been on the increase since Planet X arrived in the inner solar system in 2003. They have screamed across several countries or provinces or states, outside of any anticipated regular meteor showers. Is this meteor related to 2012 DA14, recently discovered and traced to pass between the Earth and Moon later on the same day as the Chelyabinsk meteor? There is no relationship, as 2012 DA14 is an asteroid dislodged from its usual path by the swirling in the tail of Planet X.

The Russians have claimed that they shot down the Chelyabinsk meteor, unsure if it were a missile, an attack, and in any case trying to diminish the size and potential impact. This is true, and as meteors are slowed by the atmosphere, and as the flaming meteor makes an unmistakable target, they were able to connect. Does the Chelyabinsk meteor usher in a new era of larger and more devastating fireballs descending upon the Earth? Without a question, and all will be coming from the direction of the Sun. Just another fact the cover-up will be unable to adequately explain. Just another reason why Obama needs to proceed with haste to confess that a cover-up has existed since Reagan’s Executive Order on the matter. Or will yet more lies be generated by NASA.

Are you really that stupid.

Its done. It is what it is. This is not Sandy Hook. It was 20 times an atom bomb. 300km is nothing when it inplodes at 15km in the sky.

Go back to bed and tomorrow go back to school.

Idiots.

It was not a sonic boom, it was massive kinetic energy being transferred into the atmosphere through the means of friction.

Re: How in the hell does a sonic boom implode smash windows 300 km's away ???
the answer to the question is, yes, the bigger the object, and the faster it is traveling, the bigger the sonic boom. The greater the compression of pressure waves.

Sound waves and pressure waves are the same thing. The pressure waves get piled up on eachother, because it's going faster than the speed of sound/pressure waves, so instead of getting lots of sound waves coming in over time, you get a lot of pressure waves, all pancaked and pressed together.

Same principle of how they produce nuclear fusion with soundwaves, by collapsing and imploding them into a tiny point with spherical pressure waves.

the less aerodynamic the object is, the more powerful the sonic boom. A big square piece of rock pushes a lot of air, displaces a lot of air, therefore it creates more energy.

You are collapsing all the sound energy, into a single pressure wave, because the pressure waves cannot escape and spread out.

Incidently, this is basis for the special theory of relativity, that you cannot travel faster than the speed of light. Same idea.
