Let the video speak for itself.

 Quoting: Coom

Truly a sad state of affairs.

In years to come, I can see someone taking photos of people who died from eating Monsanto and their ilk's foods...
I really fear this is just the tip of the iceberg. The birds are paying the price right now for human greed, from cruise and tour boat operators, as well as dumping companies... but our turn will come, as we will pay the price for chemical companies masquerading as food companies.

So, as we keep turning a blind eye on the poison we're eating and drinking we are paving our own way to a picture of dead humans and their anatomy in the next video.

speak for yourself!

I NEVER litter!...and I call people out for doing it all the time!

this video makes me want to punch people in the face!
 Quoting: Dr. Charles Norris

You don't litter, that's great; but I live on the streets - and I have spent the past 2 or so months daily digging in the trash cans of my city to do recycling.

The amount of waste is astounding, you think you are better just because you put your stuff in a receptacle - which then goes into a land fill - than someone who just throws their trash on the ground.

Not really ...

We are the problem ...

I would say that at least 75%+ of the stuff we throw in the trash is either reusable or recyclable ...

Killed all the native americans who we could have learned alot from, thinking 7 generations in advance - using everything from an animal - making sure there is no waste ..

The other day, I am sitting somewhere; a guy drives up in a hybrid - get's out of his car and throws the plastic in the trashcan.

People are stupid, they don't care about recycling bins; just throw trash in them. I am talking about around the city; not individual home residences ...

I've been digging through those trashes also, it is abyssmal; humans should be ashamed of ourselves - if we had a conscience ...

If we truly were ''humane'' creations, which we like to think ourselves to be ...

We are all to blame, we are each responsible; or at least our family lines have been responsible for getting us to where we are today.

If this ish wasn't a big deal, Plastic Jesus Rothschild wouldn't have jumped on the bandwagon some years back - with his failed plastiki voyage to visit the great plastic garbage patch in the ocean ...

[link to www.theplastiki.com]

this ish pisses me off, because I have nothing; live on the streets & eat out of the trash sometimes ...

I can only shake my head ...

Not to negate anything about littering, but midway islands are pretty much the bullseye for most of the trash washed out from the Japanese tsunami.

Our "progress" is a collosal lie!

We need to move back to world of the Amish or Hadza of Tanzania. Guess what, they are much happier than "civilized city folk" on average and can actually claim to be truly "free".

Our progress of the last 100 years has NOT served us and we are living on borrowed time, we haven't gained anything.

This maybe sad, but what's even sadder is no one even cares and more than likely nothing will be done about it.
 Quoting: MuslimAmerican

of course something will be done about it....the film will be released for a limited time theatrically (to qualify for next year's Oscars for Best Documentary) - once that theatre run is over its rights will be sold to cable, Netflix and the like and numerous plastic DVDs will be produced that will also be thrown away someday where some other creature will choose to avoid or snack on.

but seriously, the only thing one could do would be to devise a means to house a beverage without the use of a cap. the one who gets off his arse to do this and to do the slog of convincing the producers of these products will be the chap that deserves a film to be made about. for now, just know that these are resilient creatures- they do survive beyond the poor ones that don't. i live here on the coast and see the circle of life taking place at an amazing clip. they are fine.
 Quoting: Jinxy McDeath

A massive clean up operation and a global push to replace plastic containers, bags and similar with biodegradable material would help out a lot but again, people would have to care and get off their lazy asses and that's not going to happen.

Re: More than 2000 miles from the nearest continent - This film should be seen by the entire world
Why are some of the birds doing well, flying around by the hundreds of thousands, etc, but other are dying, even before they leave the nest?

This problem has been around for many decades, but the birds seem to be thriving, overall.

Sad, yes, but why are some birds stuffed with plastic garbage while others are doing seemingly fine?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11963746

It depends on what they are eating. Obviously plastic but some are eating larger pieces that fill their tummies up so well that they couldn't fit food in there if they tried. Others will eat smaller pieces or less toxic.

It's likely that most o them are eating the garbage, just at different rates and different types of garbage that is why some die sooner and others later.

Re: More than 2000 miles from the nearest continent - This film should be seen by the entire world
So sad... made me cry.

We're killing God's creatures and don't even realize it. We were ordered to care for them and look what we've done !!

When I go to the grocery store, I take my own bags. Got tired of them asking "paper or plastic?" - one's just as bad as the other. Plastic pollutes for what, 10,000 years???? and paper kills trees (where our oxygen comes from).

I don't think this earth can be fixed at this point. It's all about money for big corporations, and it's all about convenience for this "throw-away" society.

I can't tell you how awful I feel at this point !!!

My tears won't fix the problem. I can only do my part in my own personal little world, which doesn't amount to much and will never alter the trend.
 Quoting: Yes I Did !!!!

You care enough to do your own part, and it is enough, because that is all any of us can do. If everyone does their own part things will change, and the trend will be altered.

You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure

There is a vortex that collects trash in the middle of the pacific ocean, that's why Midway is getting dumped on.

Nothing we can really do about it, it's not that we litter that much, it's that it all converges into that area.

these gulls will evolve some gastric acid which will help bio degrade the plastic in side them, so dont worry it all fixes it self in the end.:)

it will probably be the selection for not eating the plastic at all that will win out because eating and digesting the plastic will have harmful carciniogenic effects. Also some plastics mimic hormones.

maybe some have the genetics to avoid eating the garbage. a bit of a natural slection occuring.

Does not work that fast
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20478377

yeah, it does. The predisposition to not eat the garbage may be there already because it is just natural variation. The garbage has been there a while and bird generations are short, but also, the specific trait which causes them to NOT eat the garbage may have nothing to do with garbage itself.. it could be a different sense of smell or sight that allows them to go wtf is that, not food, don't eat, or simply I don't like the smell of that.

few things that this video does not mention is these bird are over populated and are free to hunt, stfu with the ohhh hunting is even worse if we didn't hunt your damn cities would be filled with wildlife and you would not be able to leave you house with out the worry of being attacked by some random animal, not to mention every species has it's mentally handicapped some due to birth defects others from a traumatic accident that would cause them to stuff that is not digestible
like lighters either way this is not damaging to their population.

Obviously we should not be littering either way but birds fucking fly they'll just go to dump which a lot of them do and eat our damn garbage any way what can honestly be said is if bird were as smart as they say they are they would not eat it in the first place.

When I see this movie I cant't find one reason for us to be here. It might be a reason, but mankind has forgotten what it was.

That's why we should leave this planet alone.
 Quoting: Norseman2083

you don't think very highly of yourself i take it.
 Quoting: Jinxy McDeath

I have no reason to think highly about myself. I'm just a consumer like everybody else. Some of that garbage in those bird might very well be mine. Or yours - or anybody elses in here.

The day we are standing in front of the gates of heaven - this is what we must answer for. I'm not looking forward to that!
 Quoting: Norseman2083

I see you feelings about this are very selfless and I can admire that completely. Having said that you might want to keep your chin up a bit. Just saying. Its really not that bad out there. Get out every now and then you might like it outside of your digital world. hope you have a great day. Humanity will surprise you when you least expect it.

 Quoting: R3B2 34185911

Great attitude R3B2!! There's more 'wonder' in the first 10 feet beyond your front door, if you care to really look, and find it, than all the digital channels combined.

I think that this year folks will start to see more value in people, rather than profit or things. Emotional banks, and not money banks, after all, there is no money now a days anyway, it's all virtual.

But people are real, and helping another person goes a long way to creating a 'bank' of good ideas, and support, that does so much more than lending money to buy another useless item, that requires the corporation who makes it, to make fore ever greater profits, which forever keep treading on people and small busines to achieve that.

The best thing about an emotional bank, which could take the form of advice, community help, man power, or just emotional support to get people going on their own steam again, is that it cant be taxed, doesnt require endless rising profit, and can grow infinately large, or be as small as two people.

This is what is feared by those who seek control. The mechanisms of control meaning nothing to people any longer, and as such, cant be controlled.

Wont happen over night - but it will happen! hf
