Well I needed to get rid of the pennies so instead of rolling them up in little individual penny rolls and taking them to the bank, I figured why not just dump them into the self checkout lane coin thingy and use them up that way? It sure is an easy way to get rid of change that u don't need!!!!

So when ur at a self checkout lane in the UK and you put in 20 pennies, will it not accept anymore pennies after that? In other words if I put in 25 pennies will it spit 5 pennies back out at me?

I just started using the self checkout a few months ago and I have to say I love it! No more waiting in line for 20 minutes.

My question is did it take the machine a few seconds to calculate how many pennies you threw in? I know if you do that at the coinstar, you have to wait a few seconds after each handful. Or did you just dump a whole Ziploc bag straight down?

No, the machine only accepts 40-50 coins at a time. If you throw in more it will spit any excess ones back out. When you are ready to checkout I click the cash option and then where the change goes in you see a green arrow, once you put 40-50 coins in the green arrow light will go out and process those coins for maybe 5-8 seconds, if you put in more coins they will just come out, you must wait for the green arrow light to light back up before inserting anymore coins in which again is 5-8 seconds.

I usually just keep all the coins in a zip lock bag and dump a handful down in but stop once the green arrow light goes out because it needs a few seconds to process them. Its really cool.

I was at Walmart a few times during the hours of 4am-6am and during my few times there at that time I see no cashiers on duty, all that was open was the self checkouts lanes. I thought to myself geez someone could just walkout with their stuff without paying. I was shocked to see not one person in the front of the store.

Self checkout lanes are flat out evil.

You have to wait an hour for ONE person in front of you. Either its a dumbed down white trash girl with her baby daddy who cant figure anything out, or a befuddled senior citizen who wants to debate every price and cant remember how to use their debit card or digs endlessly for "exact change"

The various departments have to cover down. It's literally not that they don't want to hire nor that they don't have the manpower, it's just policy.
