First and foremost 90% of all third world countries look to the US for assistance. Either through science, medecine, education or what have you, all we the citizens see is the money going towards them. it is ultimately about giving the choice to the people (third world people) and giving them a voice and alloowing it to be heard. The people have a choice or should on their very survival or well being in the countries that they reside in. This is where the US comes in. We the US would intervene in ANY country that has used any government weapons against its own people like in the thread this topic is in. We have (the US) intervened in all the above said countries (Chad, Serbia and so forth) but we also sit back aid the opposition and let them battle for there own freedom and voice, when that voice is not heard by there leaders then we (the US) step in. Remember every soldier, sailor, airman and seaman sign the dotted line on the pink contract at there own discretion and there own free will. I personally dont know the "true" reason we (the US) are going into Syria which we ultimately will. BUT in the worlds eyes it gives them hope. Hope the opposition in said countries have a voice and an allie to speak against and if need be even rise against opression in there own country. I say all this because I am a VET I have served my time. I would gladly go where my job takes me for I knew what that job required of me. If the subject in this thread leads to DOOM well then so be it, its time this world shapes up and strives for the way every person on the planet wants it to be. Ultimately at peace and a good and safe place for their children to grow up in. Yes I will fight for that, it is taught in our history books, our forefathers did it, we did it in the civil war and if we have to do it again, then as Americans we will. Rant off...

I commend you on serving our country....or more like serving other peoples countries. I have to argue though that we in fact do not intervene when a govnment uses its weapons on its own people. Cambodia, Rawanda, etc were left alone: our nation had no need or use for them. We had interests in controlling the Serbian regions, but NATO was the riding invaders, bad ones at that. Somalia was the same: we aren't protecting anyone, only our own interests.

There have been famines. Disasters of beyond comprehension. Genocides of unrealistic dimensions waged on nations all over the world even still after the 2nd World War, but we only intervene where we may have threatened assets, or can gain a foothold of new assets. Dafur saw millions of deaths. We did nothing. Rawanda the same: we did nothing. Etc. etc. this is another example of the Empirical USA sticking its nose in where in "moral" standings we have no place. If you deem this a moral based issue, then there are dozens of others that call that platform into dubious question.

Doesn't have to prove to be a legitimate and imminent threat to the safety of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA?! Not a threat to the people of other nations?!
