You have my sympathy Goat! I recently built one for some fellow who wanted 'mortise and tenon'. He said, "Not a screw one, got it." Quoting: Master Jedi Powers Okie doke! For what it cost him, he could have bought a really nice hot tub and got to pro football cheerleader to do him in it. When I wrote out the contract and the completion receipt, I told him, point blank, this is a limited warranty. Unless I fouled something up or the wood was defective, I was not responsible for the long term condition of said deck. You probably wanted to shit when he said that and you actually went through with it!!! |

Goes on like pancake batter and provides a splinter-proof surface kinda like you'd see in a spray-in truck bed-liner. So far so good on a fir 2x6 deck that I was ready to replace with composite after a major remodel. It's a solid seal and you can get it in pretty much any color you want. We chose a darkish blue color with white trim. Turned out sharp! Just hope it holds up through our Eastern-Washington state winters! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 4991783 United States 09/07/2013 10:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My house had a cement patio, and some years ago they built a slightly larger wood deck over it. The wood deck was there when we bought the house. The wood's (pressure treated) in pretty bad condition, deep enough splinters that it would be pretty hard to sand enough off. But it's not warped, no mildew, etc. WE've just put up with it for six years, use it all the time, just be careful if you're barefoot on it. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 4991783 United States 09/07/2013 10:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hard and expensive to do elevated...and if it cracks..your screwed to replace all Maybe that's what yappened under our wood deck, I don't even know what the condition of the patio is under my wood deck. I think it's largely crumbling, it's over 50 years old now. But why can't you just patch the concrete? |
Really?? User ID: 728825 Puerto Rico 09/07/2013 10:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just drink a few beer and powerwash the thing. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15740069 Then spray it with a sealant coat if you feel like it. Beers and a powerwasher...definitely a guy thing, the big powerwasher is too big for me to handle and anything less doesn't do the job....this my husband's job...18'x 33' and 10'x 40'..plus the stairs (2 sets) and the pool deck, too......but with all that lumber can't afford the composite.... |
Thor_ User ID: 31664227 United States 09/07/2013 10:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I hate that space underneath the deck. Although in my personal house it doesn't have that problem. The space under the deck is part of the basement. Maybe that makes it technically not a deck, not sure. But, it seems nice. Thats because treated lumber is mostly dougfur or any cheap wood..treated doesnt help with water ect, just bugs and mold. The green treated is coppersulfate...same stuff from the tack store for stopping thrush(a type of mold) on horses hoofs... |
