Re: BPearthwatch gets it wrong... again.
Does anyone know where to find alternative info on Ison and related topics?

I'm not interested in NASA or "official" sources. Perhaps a skilled amateur or a former employee that has a good grasp of how to analyze available data without any sort of religious bent.

1- BP said that the coma of Ison is 6 times the size of earth Is this even true?) He also mentioned that it could possibly be a plasma field. He cited a wiki article about how plasma could be generated at high speeds.. it was for a plasma weapon but what about a massive propulsion system? Or just a naturally occurring plasma field? In any case a plasma field that huge could totally fry the power grid (see item 4)

2- What about the segmented V shape? The NASA explanation on this doesn't seem to hold water.

3- The Deep Impact satellite that was supposed to send pics is conveniently tumbling out of control and unable to do so. Something fishy here no?

4- The power grid shutdown supposedly going down in November. Where did this story come from? Last I heard this has not been confirmed and people don't know if it's an actual shutdown or a drill. Is this story even true?

5- How are the orbits calculated on a "new" comet? If it's new as they say, how do they know that this thing isn't just making a beeline for our solar system? How do they know that it will whip around the sun?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3122301

1. No
2. Just because you don't know enough to understand imaging and computer generated graphics doesn't mean that it doesn't hold water. There is even an animated video showing the individual images in succession, then the final image at the end. It's really not that difficult to understand.
3. Fishy? Not really...
4. [link to www.nytimes.com]
5. It isn't moving fast enough to escape the gravity of the sun. It's impossible for the comet to do anything other than dive into the sun or whip around the sun and back out into space.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46963621

It's a hoax from someone who saw the videos of radar data of 1998 QE2 and its moon and didn't understand those aren't literally "images" when he used that as inspiration for his ISON cg hoax. Videos of 1998 QE2 radar data and radar data of other asteroids aren't literal images like that, they're graphical displays of Doppler shift and light return delay.

The video you posted was claimed to be from a Chinese satellite... a communications satellite. There is no satellite or telescope in the world large enough to resolve an image of ISON's nucleus like that at its current distance, not even close.

I don't think you can debunk the dust, bro.
I'm not saying the DUST will be bad, only that it can't be dispelled as 100% harmless until u know how much there is and
What it is made off.
 Quoting: NewThor

It's made of the same stuff as all the comet dust that hits us with every other meteor shower and it'll be less than other meteor showers.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Please give an example of any other comet this large that engulfed the Earth for what has been forecasted to be 8 days in an immense amount of dust.

You guys act like this just another common fly-by when it's suppose to be brighter and bigger than a full moon...hardly say this is an ordinary comet.

And a little bit of dust versus being immersed in the dust for over a week is slightly different. Isn't that that dust consisting of cyanide? If so, we slightly DIE when we breath or drink cyanide.

So tell me oh Great Astro

Dr Astro,

When are we going to see another video, photo, of ISON from you? and what can we expect you to be posting in the future? How often and at what times and distances, and have you got a plan to show all of us?

As this comet gets closer, from your photos will we be able to get closer more clear high res photo of what all may be inside its coma?

After watching and hearing all the fear porn and BS about ELENIN i'm not sure anything out of the ordinary will come of this comet either, however, I don't rule out possible unforeseen consequences, possible earth changes. You just never know with the times we live in.

In your opinion, Is there possibly larger than dust sized particles, possibly tens of millions of rocks ,asteroids? what about possible Cyanide gases coming in the tail of this thing?

From the trajectories I've seen, which I presume to be accurate?,it appears that as the comet is slingshot around the sun that afterwords, as its going away from earth for several weeks, the earth will be directly in this comet tail where there is a possibility of magnetosphere problems because of the nearness to the sun possibly acting up and solar flares causing charged particles with comet and earths magnetosphere lighting up like a huge firework in the sky causing some type of possible electrical reaction?.

I watched a very informative video on comets showing that they really are still learning a lot about comets, and have research showing solar flare radiation bursts can possibly cause a reaction with charged particles causing possible large electrical discharges to our magnetosphere?

At some point we will be directly in front of, and in between the comet and the sun, with how massive this coma, tail is, possibly earth directed flares and CME radiation bursts could be a problem for our electrical systems, and satellites, as well as possibly setting off increased volcanic eruptions, increased volcanism?

any educated guesses or information on any of this type stuff?..

...as well as possible cyanide gases, space rocks and deb re flung towards earth?

These are the more interesting questions in my mind, and this is assuming this is a typical comet, not planets or hidden huge asteroids, intelligently controlled objects, etc. etc. etc. I assume as it gets nearer, with the help of amateur astronomers we will find out exactly whats coming...

Stay watchful.

Dr Astro,

When are we going to see another video, photo, of ISON from you?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 39830991

I'm going to do another live ISON webcast sometime this week.
How often and at what times and distances, and have you got a plan to show all of us?
 Quoting: AC

I'm going to try to show ISON once a week. I would schedule a specific day except that I don't want to have to cancel on account of weather and have missed an earlier day in the week that I could have done it, so I'm just going to play it by ear and try whenever the weather looks good at a rate of about one show a week.
As this comet gets closer, from your photos will we be able to get closer more clear high res photo of what all may be inside its coma?
 Quoting: AC

As it gets closer, if it survives perihelion, it will look much larger and brighter in my images. There won't be anything to see in the coma unless it breaks up. The coma is just tenuous gas and dust.
In your opinion, Is there possibly larger than dust sized particles, possibly tens of millions of rocks ,asteroids? what about possible Cyanide gases coming in the tail of this thing?
 Quoting: AC

Tens of millions of rocks and asteroids? No. There may be slightly larger bits near the nucleus, in fact the nucleus itself could be binary for all we know, but if so it's orbiting the primary object of the nucleus at a very close distance, too close for even Hubble to have resolved back in April.

It's not a threat to us. We've known about cyanogen gas in comets for a long time now, and for just as long a time there have been people trying to profit off of that with fear porn combined with sales of "survival gear." The fact is that the gasses in the coma and tail are too tenuous to affect life on earth, even if it flew right past us and we brushed the tail (which we won't). That's exactly what happened with Halley's comet in the early 20th century and no one got poisoned by it.

 Quoting: AC

Nope. We're not going to pass through the tail. We will pass relatively close in January to where the comet had been previously which is where we may intersect some dust left behind from it, but we will not be passing through the tail. Note that in Halley's case the comet literally passed directly between us and the sun. Nothing happened.
At some point we will be directly in front of, and in between the comet and the sun,
 Quoting: AC

Nope.
with how massive this coma, tail is, possibly earth directed flares and CME radiation bursts could be a problem for our electrical systems,
 Quoting: AC

No. CMEs can be a problem for our electrical systems but they have nothing to do with ISON. And ISON will not be directly between us and the sun. Nor will we be directly between ISON and the sun.

I'm amazed. I actually agree with you. The End Times must be near. While I do think that NASA, along with the rest of the government, is full of shit, I think Ison will be a big nothing - probably like Kohautek back in the day. No Nbiru or end of the world or probably not even much of a comet, although a flamer would be cool. It might freak people out too much though and much of the world is loosely wrapped right now.

Stop judging each other, so what is BP made a couple or a few errors. We are all learning, that man is trying to do his part and probably is doing more than you or I. If he has wrong info, instead of judging him and putting him down. Why not just let him know that it is wrong and give the info/link he needs to come to right conclusion. Lets not tear apart our fellow man for trying to help.
 Quoting: RagingStar

MrCartoonwatcher, is that you?

The person now known as BPearthwatch was MrCometwatch. I called him MrCartoonwatcher since his intellectual level was that of a 10 yer old.
He appeared on Rubetube during the Terral Elenin frenzy and joined right in trying for the Gold as the biggest tard on Rubetube.
He came close to beating out Terral until Terral revealed that Terral is god.
It is hard to get more insane than that so Terral put a lock on the Gold and MrCartoonwatcher had to settle for the Silver.
When Elenin disintegrated and no doom was to be found at all, he deleted all his scores of Elenin Doom!!!!!! vids and switched to ranting End-Times Bibletardisms.
He's now wriggled out of his maggot-hole to try to hoax the Rubes again.
He's no smarter, but then neither are his marks.

Here's a short trip down memory lane with the Elenin lies and insanity featuring MrCartoonwatcher.
Again, he's deleted all his incriminating Elenin vids but you can get a feel for what they were about from the posts.
You'll also notice he was deleting and blocking people from commenting on his vids if they didn't agree with him.
He's a kOOk and an End-Times Bibletard which makes him one of the most dishonest people in the world.

MrCartoonwatcher's idiocy where he mistakes Mercury for Elenin... and has taken down his vids showing he's a moron.
"You're right, that's not a comet, that's even not Elenin, that's only MERCURY!"

9/14/2011
Only a few days later MrCartoonwatcher hilariously drools that the Pleiades are now comet Elenin - and makes a vid to record his stupidity.
TBar slaps him around:
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
Astronut slaps him around:
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
I slap him around indirectly:
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
As TBar finally laughed in exasperation a month or so later after MrCartoonwatcher and all the other tards had called virtually everything in every image Elenin/Nibiru... 'Jeeze, EVERYTHING is Elenin.'

9/14/2011
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
Sungrazer debunks MrCartoonwatcher's concept that something is wrong because aphelion isn't listed.
I remember debunking him on this too. He didn't understand that any object with an eccentricity >=1 has no aphelion and one cannot be calculated. The orbit isn't closed. Since Mrcartoonwatcher failed 9th grade multiple times he doesn't understand parabolas and hyperbolas... but that doesn't stop him from crankaing out Rubetube vids and his ignorant commentary on the subject. Just because your an ignoramus doesn't mean your not a brilliant amateur Rubetube scientist does it?
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
TBar also laughs at MrCartoonwatcher.

9/20/2011
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
TBar slams MrCartoonwatcher's latest:
"This Guy 'MrCometwatch' is a complete Bozo. First, it took forever to convince him Elenin wasn't on Stereo B, I'm banned from making any comments anymore, now his new gig is Stereo A. ... "

9/24/2011
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
MrCartoonwatcher just can't understand he's a moron and not seeing Elenin or Nibiru, but the Pleiades.
TBar tries to explain to MrCartoonwatcher how the STEREO imagers are arranged and what they see... which is surprising since MrCometwatcher had been making vids acting like an expert in space science and finding "lies" and "anomalies" in the images when he doesn't even know how the imagers work.
Not unusual for Rubetube "scientists". The only difference is MrCartoonwatcher isn't a 13 year old little girl squealing and running in circles. He's a grown adult man, if you can believe that. And a colossal tard.

9/24/2011
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
Another member calls BS on MrCartoonwatcher and his continuing lies about the Pleiades.

9/29/2011
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
MrCartoonwatcher branches out into solar science and guess what? He gets it completely wrong.
"Ho my f... god, watching this redneck on youtube is hilarious.
By the way a Flare takes a few seconds to hit earth. A CME will take 2-3 days to hit earth. And there wasn't any X flare today so... BSflag"

10/19/2011
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
TBar debunks MrCartoonwatcher ... again.
"I put this at the top of my channel for a reason. MrCometFraud should stick to watching Earthquakes like he did after I proved him wrong the last time. Why are people still watching this fraud?"

10/23/2011
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
MrCartoonwatcher posting about his 3 comet on impact course delusion.
"mrcometwatch again
:bigbs:"

So you see tards, we've been through it all before with ignoramuses putting out dimwitted vids where everything they say is wrong and yet they, in their arrogant ignorance, think they are correct and their even dumber followers cheer them on as they are being fed a diet of lies and stupidity.

Eat up tards.
MrCartoonwatcher has a steaming pile of feces for you to shove down your gullets.
Does it ever make you stop and think that you are taking the ravings of a 5th grade drop-out burger flipper as some sort of expertise. Your 10 year old knows more than this moron. What's that say about the 10 year old's parents who listen to MrCometwatcher?
Pretty dumb, huh?

The demons of comet stupidity must be exorcised:

1- BP said that the coma of Ison is 6 times the size of earth Is this even true?)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3122301

A comet's coma is always large if it's a decent comet. Really impressive comets can have comas that even exceed the size of the sun. They're very tenuous though, there's not a lot of mass there especially compared to a planet like earth. They're large because they're not gravitationally bound to the parent comet. The solar wind blows back these particles to form the tail.
2- What about the segmented V shape? The NASA explanation on this doesn't seem to hold water.
 Quoting: AC

It does hold water. All the water. I came to the same conclusion before NASA even said it.

3- The Deep Impact satellite that was supposed to send pics is conveniently tumbling out of control and unable to do so. Something fishy here no?
 Quoting: AC

Nothing convenient about it. Nothing fishy either about an 8 year old probe having problems when it had a designed life of only 1 year. It was having communications system problems 2 years ago during the Hartley 2 encounter.
4- The power grid shutdown supposedly going down in November. Where did this story come from? Last I heard this has not been confirmed and people don't know if it's an actual shutdown or a drill. Is this story even true?
 Quoting: AC

Heard nothing of the kind, but reminds me of similar bullshit promising a shutdown during the Elenin nonsense in 2011.
5- How are the orbits calculated on a "new" comet? If it's new as they say, how do they know that this thing isn't just making a beeline for our solar system? How do they know that it will whip around the sun?
 Quoting: AC

This paper from 1937 describes the methods of Laplace and Gauss for preliminary orbit determination and they are still used even today.
[link to adsabs.harvard.edu]
It's basic celestial mechanics. Put simply, astrometric measurements of the comet's position over time are used to determine the orbit. So yes, we know how it will "whip around the sun." Gravity works.

Hey Astro-
Would you consider a thread or reply on the theory that the Black Death, which corresponded with the fly by of a great comet, may not have been a plague, but rather radiation poisoning from the comet proximity or dust, etc?

Your opinion is valued.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46001487

That's just silly. Old comet superstitions trying to cling onto life in the modern era. The only death brought on by comets so far (other than any unfortunate human in the blast radius of Tunguska) have been those who have killed themselves over comets in the past. As for the Black Death, Yersinia pestis is to blame.

Hi Dr Astro:-)

A bit off topic, but I'd olike to hear your opinion about a certain coronal hole, which apparently permeating the Sun, wall-to wall, corona-to corona.
I am aware, that the "holes" are likely not holes, but cooler plasma, yet it seems a bit odd...

Thread: SUN GATE STILL OPEN IT COULD LET ISON IN SMOOTHLY - UPDATE OCT 12: The same coronal hole is back on BOTH sides of the SUN. 2 MONTH passed (Page 6)

Cordially invite you to the thread above, or just take a look at this pic:

What I don't get is, how someone can think they are always right. And such an astounding array of info spewed. You always get the non-thinkers hook line and sinker.

It's so amusing to watch the superiority complexes here.

Almost sociopathic.

oh no doubt. i appreciate you telling truth about this guy. i just mean its a bummer that the pro's have left us comet-tards so thirsty that we will believe this guy without a near professional like yourself letting us know the truth.

Re: BPearthwatch gets it wrong... again.

No clue who this guy is, but it sounds like it is intentional misinformation based on this thread. Reminds me of a story about this boy who cried wolf. Problem is, you yell we are all going to die a 100 times, when the 101st time is the real deal, people just aren't going to listen.

I can see it now, we will someday have giant aliens slinging asteroids at us, killing 1000's at a time, and someone is going to raise a BS flag on it, because they are just numb to all the warnings.

Re: BPearthwatch gets it wrong... again.
No, this is not comet ISON.

BPearthwatch has no idea what he's talking about. Again. It's actually galaxy NGC 936.
[link to nova.astrometry.net]
He's moderating all comments on his video and I kind of doubt he'll accept my comment correctly identifying the object in question. It's not ISON, they simply showed an image of it at the end of one of the Slooh shows about ISON to show what else their members were looking at (and pointing out how it looks like a star wars tie fighter), just to advertise for their subscription service. BPearthwatch either wasn't paying attention or didn't understand (or he does understand and he's just lying to get hits in order to drive up ad revenue on his channel), so he jumps to the conclusion that it's ISON and that this image confirms that there are objects next to ISON. Wrong. It's a galaxy about 50 million light years away. It is not comet ISON. Astrometry confirms this.
