Good go this morning. Thanks. Maybe. You could tell me why the stream here looks out of focus. It was doing that intermittently during the
You tube broadcast of the America's cup yesterday.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26749853

Don't know, it looked fine on my end but of course I'm not seeing what the stream compression looks like. I'm also connecting to the internet and webcasting through my phone, so if the cell reception drops off a bit it's going to impact the image quality of the stream.

Astro,

Just wondering why you are taking Biases.
Aren't they essentially included in your Darks?

Anyway, I spit coffee when you slewed to Mars and it was a giant honking Nibiru!!!!!
Good lord, can you imagine what the Anomalytards would do with that?
Anomalytard - "How can a pinpoint Mars show up as a frame filling giant ball of light?!!!!!!!???? That's the Orange Katchina!!!!!!!!"

Have fun.

LOL! Tell me about it. I collect every kind of calibration file I can. Technically read noise is in the dark frame, but when you can quickly grab 100 or more bias frames it makes for much smoother cancellation of read noise than 10 or so dark frames. This is especially important when I'm running off the power inverter; it induces some kind of electronic interference in the read noise of the CCD even though the only part of the CCD connected to the inverter is the fan.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Ah, OK.

Thanks for the insight re - Darks/Biases.

And whatta' know. ISON is exactly where it is predicted to be.
I hope it survives perihelion and puts on a good show. I got to see Hale-Bopp which was a great show but there are a lot of people who were not alive or too young for HB so it would be nice if they get to see a good comet too.

Have fun.

No. It's just a comet. Really.

A comet with 3 separate distinct perfectly looking fluorescent bright luminous light sources inside the comet? Mmmm... perhaps the landlord of this planet, God, has ordered contract engineers to shut down the Earth for repairs, they'll be here soon. Hope they don't evict us of here..!!! God won't be giving us back our deposit back, that's for sure.. & renting a space on this planet is sure to go up!

And who are these "they" you speak of?
Annewnookies?
Are you mixing Christianian and Sumerian/Babylonian pagan theology?
What would Jesus say about that, I wonder?

Here are some cell phone camera shots of the telescope I took while it was collecting calibration frames. Pretty morning. My great blue herron friend is in the background of the first shot.

I'm quite happy with it, didn't have any issues with flat field calibration this time, which is always good. You can see the tail a bit. Still, I had some issues stacking some of the frames due to noise in the image being mistaken for stars. I'll have to go back later today and try to eliminate the spurious detections so that they stack.

Never was interested in "the skies above" but after reading most of astro's posts..becoming more aware and getting more interested about our universe(maybe the big bang theory shows helped too) ;)

Thx Dr Astro..keep it up.

Astrometry of the image reveals the coma width to be about 33.19 arcseconds in the image. At the comet's distance of 2.455 AU that corresponds to a coma size of about 59,000 km. It's possible the true size is a bit larger as I may not have captured the faintest regions of it.
