If someone is weak spirited enough to kill themselves over comments on a website, they obviously did not have parents that truly educated them, have some sort of emotional disorder, or have a totally backwards view on priorities in life.

As for those that are technologically bullied, (Like folks that have hackers use personal info to bully and hound them.), You are in the wrong if you are utilizing a tool, service, resource, or technology if you have not even the basic idea how it works. The creation of the term cyber bullying, and the recent idea of anti-bullying activism is a primer to create regulation.

Rules, regulations, and security measures are the answer using police state mentality. Education, personal responsibility, and self regulation are the answers of a free people, and those with a unifying cultural/moral ideal.

Personally, it's a technology, with dangers associated with it, but just like a lawn mower you should have some basic understanding of how it works before you operate it.

Just my 2 cents. I do think there are some sad cases related to "cyber bullying", but I wonder how the statistics stack up against things like drunk driving, domestic abuse, etc. etc.

Ahh, got ya. I think it's become so normal for them to get into everything, that I don't bat an eye anymore. On one hand, it's a little less privacy. On the other hand, I don't have the faith in our society to govern itself. Take that for what you will...but I'm on the fence.

Yeah, I have little faith in many of my countryman as well, but how else will people learn unless they fall. We're putting so many safety nets and padding around that people are beginning to have trouble coping with any real adversity or challenges. In the end this leads us to a place where weakness and incompetence become the new norm.

It sounds harsh, but In a way I think our country needs a lesson in reality and personal responsibility. I'm afraid we've already reached the point of no return. If the government weren't propping up the economy right now, and we plunged into another great depression scenario without the government safety nets how would people cope today compared to the 1930s? That's the terrifying prospect.

Unfortunately this mentality leads to a police state, class warfare, and the destruction of the middle class. Leaving those of us who accept personal responsibility, and have creative minds in a kind of social/cultural purgatory, and possibly targets to those who see the ability to question authority as a threat.

I've been noticing a nasty trend regarding social activism, and cyber bullying is one of the hot buttons in the media today. This trend is that first a situation is created. Then it is advertised, and then the solution is created.

What will be the solution to cyber bullying, and how will it benefit the ruling class? (That should be the question)

Or taking the time to educate your kids, and setup your network and computers to allow them to safely navigate the web, and not allowing your children privacy on the web until they've proven they can use it responsibly.

I actually think absolutely no safeguards are perfectly fine in a "perfect" society. There weren't many barriers in the mid 90's when I started surfing. An early shock to innocence can instill respect better than a "do not touch" sign. :)

A guy at work tried to cyberbully me, but was stymied and he wasted all of his vitriol on himself upon realizing that I’m not on phazebook. So he printed out all of his brilliant witticisms and left it on my doorstep. The next day at work, he asked if I felt bullied.

“What are you talking about?”

“I’m Cyberbullying you; you’re not on phazebook, so I left a package on your doorstep.”
