JUST NOW!!!!! South Texas Meteor
I live on the south texas coast and I was sitting at my desk which is next to the window and it got bright out side and a few seconds later there was a really loud boom. I didn't actually see it go through the atmosphere so i cant really tell you what direction it came from but i saw the flash and heard the bang. Did anyone else hear and see it???

That's because we didn't have the internet to report those type of events. Now everything is a meteor and its trendy to report after the Russian incident.

Re: JUST NOW!!!!! South Texas Meteor
your pretty wrong with what your speaking about. Shooting starts are not NEAR earth astroids. Near earth astroids are increasing in size and number but the amount of "shooting stars" are relatively the same. When we see shooting stars, they are distant, but still within the atmosphere. When the smoke trail is visible with the naked eye, that is called a "near earth meteor". If you think the danger of meteor impact isn't increasing, look at the security statements of different countries around the world. my parents are over 60 years old. my mom has never seen one and my father has only seen one in his entire lifetime and grew up in the clear skies. this is now the second one i have witnessed with my own eyes. How many people told you they just saw a meteor fly over their house with a giant trail of smoke? For the last few hundred years we have been in a "resting" state as far as potentially dangerous meteors. if you think that the internet is to blame for increasing reports.. your wrong. It is accepted that we will experience more sightings until around 2050-2060 which then the activity return to a less spontaneous pattern for another couple hundred years.. when "shooting stars" will be the norm again. The HUGE trail of smoke trailing behind is the difference between "oh look a shooting star make a wish", and "Wow that was so cool! Lets go check the news! I think that was a meteor!" also, military and space programs have come together because of the increase and created a program that relays information to countries all around the world to shoot out anything that can potentially cause another Tunguska event. This is not "abnormal" but it does take a century or two to complete the cycle, so yes, we are experiencing "increased" near earth satellite activity. at least more than we are used to in the last 50-100 years. The russian meteor was in fact relayed by the russian defense program with a nonexplosive impact projectile to weaken its structure in attempt to lessen the blow on impact if it did hit ground. Thank you. If you want to see a shooting star. Look outside for the next week. you will see about 3 per hour. but bet your ass a near earth meteor is gonna open your eyes a little bit wider.
Go back to school.

Re: JUST NOW!!!!! South Texas Meteor
Like I said, what the average person considers a shooting star is different from what we are speaking about here. If you want to see one, go outside right now, wait one hour, and you will see an average of three meteors every hour no matter what part of the world you live in. These pose no threat because they are too small to achieve impact on the surface of the earth. They will burn up before they get close. for the next 40 or 50 years we will see meteors of a much larger scale in size that can potentially take out a small town or even an area the size of Rhode Island, usa. The number of LARGE meteors entering our atmosphere has slowly been increasing over the years, making it much easier for the average person to spot one of these awesome events. Think of bingo, if you only play with one card, it will take much longer for you to get bingo, but when you increase the amount of cards you play with, you increase your chances of getting a "hit" on the number called out, achieving bingo faster. I'm not saying anything bad is going to happen, but it is a known fact that we are overdue for a potentially dangerous impact. There isn't an increase of meteors we are witnessing, it is an increase of larger meteors we are witnessing. Thats why they are being reported more often. nobody reports shooting stars. But larger meteors reach lower altitudes, causing more reports. The closer the meteor gets to earth, the more reports it will produce. It's not a hard concept to understand the first time you hear it. Our governing world now accepts these numbers and have taken initiative to prevent another Tunguska event. FACT. s226

Re: JUST NOW!!!!! South Texas Meteor
Before the trolls entered the room we were asking if anyone had seen anything related to the topic at hand. South Florida and Southern Texas have had sightings of large meteors around midnight. They left large trails of smoke. The meteor in Texas was followed by a Mid-air boom from what was posted before. Never heard a boom here in florida. Has any information surfaced on these two events specifically. "shooting stars" are not of concern.. so.. um.. if you know the difference, no need to report those. lol. we aren't curious about who made wishes tonight. :P

thats entirely wrong...

if it enters earths atmosphere and it catches fire and zooms through the sky creating a flash...

then it leaves a trail...

no matter the size of the "shooting star" it does create a trail...

most "shooting stars" are only about the size of a grain of sand... but some can be bigger and create a huge flash and trail...

What difference does it make? These meteors with smoke trails are just big shooting stars. They are all just the same stuff making large flashes and streaking across the sky. Jesus, never thought so many would get butthurt over calling a meteor a shooting star. You call them meteors I call them shooting stars.
