Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51989889 yes but think that this rock made a trip just to come infront of the one and only camera on an otherwise "empty" planet. the same goes for the wind reason. it could be a concequence but what are the odds? darth User ID: 47336017 United States 01/20/2014 09:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Mars has hydrocarbons such as methane that percolate to the surface. Mars has an unusual phenomenon that Earth lacks: when UV (sunlight) strikes the surface, peroxides are formed. We learned this when the peroxides ate the seals out of early rovers and landers. When hydrocarbons meet peroxides, spontaneous combustion and detonation can occur. We see evidence of water shooting out of hillsides and slopes in violent eruptions. My hypothesis is that the combustion is melting permafrost and creating steam that propels the liquid water out of the ground. A good PhD thesis could be based on an accurate simulation of Mars surface conditions that create peroxides. To my knowledge, no such physical simulation has been demonstrated. |

Regardless, this fluky incident has given us great insight as to what will happen when actual contact is made, and the findings are deeply disturbing. People will just make light of it and go back to watching their televisions. |
